Many have failed.<\/p>\n<p>Sears is now \u200doperating just a \u2063handful of stores\u2062 while \u200cBed Bath\u2064 &#038; Beyond went out of business in\u200d July.<\/p>\n<p>The retail chain \u200cTuesday Morning met a similar fate this summer and is now\u200d just a\u200c memory for former\u2064 shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>JCPenney, which emerged from bankruptcy in November 2020\u2064 with\u2064 new ownership, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/indias-zomato-plunges-to-record-low-as-share-lock-in-period-ends\/\" title=\"India\u2019s Zomato plunges to record low as share lock-in period ends\">making big investments<\/a> in \u2063its stores as well as its online operations and its \u200bmobile app.<\/p>\n<p>By spending\u200d $1 billion \u2064on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/walgreens-causes-a-stir-by-unveiling-anti-theft-store-with-radical-new-security-measures\/\" title=\"Walgreens unveils new store with innovative security measures to prevent theft.\">making shopping<\/a> more convenient, the 121-year-old \u200bcompany hopes to stick \u200baround for a while \u200dlonger, if not indefinitely \u2064in a marketplace controlled by the \u200dlikes of Amazon\u200c and\u200c Walmart.<\/p>\n<p>According\u2062 to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jcpenney-investment-economy-marc-rosen-a7fb34b24a1024e78ce211bddb571486\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Associated Press<\/a>, JCPenney will\u2062 inject\u2063 cash into its operations with plans for\u2064 a revival\u200b scheduled to be \u200dcompleted by the end of \u20632025.<\/p>\n<h3>A New Strategy for Middle-Class Shoppers<\/h3>\n<p>Company CEO Marc Rosen told\u2064 the AP in an interview this past week the move is part of the company\u2019s new\u2063 strategy at going after middle-class shoppers and not necessarily \u2063the wealthy clientele the company targeted in years\u200b past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is the time \u2062more than ever \u200cto lean into that and make\u2062 sure that we\u2019re delivering that experience for our customer,\u201d Rosen said.<\/p>\n<h3>Revamped Store\u200c Experience<\/h3>\n<p>What\u200d will the updated JCPenney\u2063 locations look like?<\/p>\n<p>According to Rosen, the department chain\u2019s physical\u200b locations will be brighter while checkout stations will be consolidated to a single area of the stores\u200d for a more efficient experience.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, registers\u2062 are spread out across the large footprints of \u2062JCPenney\u2019s locations.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, employees will be given \u200dmobile devices that they can use\u2062 to better assist customers and manage their inventory.<\/p>\n<p>Wi-Fi networks will also be available.<\/p>\n<h3>Competing with Retail Giants<\/h3>\n<p>Rosen also said the company\u2019s financial restructuring has put it in a position to compete\u2063 with other\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amazon-walmart-decrease-covid-leave-times-for-employees\/\" title=\"Amazon, Walmart Decrease COVID Leave Times For Employees\">retail giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>JCPenney currently operates around 650 locations after it closed about 200 stores in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-teacher-sues-school-board-after-being-fired-he-refused-to-compromise-on-trans-pronouns\/\" title=\"Flashback: Teacher Sues School Board After Being Fired \u2013 He Refused To Compromise on Trans Pronouns\">recent years<\/a> after it\u2062 was acquired by\u2063 Simon Property Group \u200dInc. and Brookfield\u200b Property Partners\u200c LP.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s debt\u200d was reduced from roughly\u2063 $5 \u200bbillion to around\u200c $500 million today, thanks\u2063 to savvy leadership and calculated \u200bmoves, such as a focus \u200bon revamping its beauty departments.<\/p>\n<p>But the company still faces challenges, Rosen told the AP, as it is behind its\u2062 competitors in regard to both convenience and aesthetics.<\/p>\n<p>However, the company has already remodeled 100 locations and plans to remodel \u2064an additional 50 to 100 stores every year.<\/p>\n<p>JCPenney reported\u2063 sales of around $9 billion for 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/struggling-jcpenny-spends-1-billion-last-ditch-effort-stay-business\/\">Struggling JCPenny Spends $1\u2062 Billion in Last-Ditch Effort\u200d to\u200c Stay in Business<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JCPenney&#8217;s survival strategy in a changing retail landscape involves adapting to online shopping trends.
