If you would have read about her background to see that she is truly a \u2064far-left leaning Democrat. She wants to \u2062BAN a 30-year ruling that is on the books for street\u2063 racing and \u2018take overs\u2019 in intersections. No,\u2062 John, this is a woman who\u200d wanted to defund our Santa Ana Police entirely. These ideological and left-leaning\u200d concepts \u2063that\u200b Ms. Lopez holds are a Marxist viewpoint to further the decline of\u2063 our Santa Ana community, \u2064in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In my article,\u200d I mentioned my experience seeing how \u2064the unions\u2064 mercilessly smeared state Sen. John Moorlach when I worked \u2064for him \u2063and his reelections. My friend also wrote, \u201cFurthermore,\u200b I certainly would not lump Ms. Lopez in with John Moorlach and the issues he went through. She represents Ward 3. We got over 5,700 signatures that wanted her to be replaced. She is a radical!\u2064 Please know that we are in a mess with\u2062 Santa Ana politics with the likes of Ms. Lopez. This is\u2063 an opportunity to find a more moderate Councilmember.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hopeful for her to be\u2064 defeated. She does not stand for anything that is favorable to Santa Ana, except radical\u2063 far<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prager-the-media-produces-derangement-proof-from-new-york-times-readers\/\" title=\"PRAGER: The Media Produces Derangement: Proof From New York Times Readers\">-left-wing ideas<\/a>. Do you want \u2064to lift a \u206330 year ban on street \u2062racing and allow this to happen where you reside? She has the Cannabis dollars \u200bto promote\u2062 her left agenda. You may get what you want\u2014a \u200ctotal hard lefty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, what a \u2063mess \u2062if we have to have her continue on Santa Ana City Council. The unions and Santa Ana\u2063 Police Department have enough hostility toward them, \u200bnot \u2063a council member.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I also mentioned the \u2064March primary was just four\u200d months after the recall. My friend wrote, \u2062\u201cGlad they did not wait until the 2024 elections! Please remove Jessie Lopez. She is harmful \u2062to Santa Ana Neighborhoods. She is for\u200c radical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shapiro-debunking-rent-control\/\" title=\"SHAPIRO: Debunking Rent Control\">rent control<\/a> laws. Not good for landlords.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Indeed, in my original article I wrote how Ms. Lopez\u2019s positions on\u200c rent control and\u200d other policies were not good for the city.<\/p>\n<h2>My Response: Union Power \u200cRules<\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s\u200c my response to my friend\u2019s excellent\u200c points, expanded for this article.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>In the end, this is about union power, specifically police union power. There is no worse kind. After my \u2062Aug. 29 article came out,\u2062 on Aug. 30 the \u200bVoice of OC published another <a href=\"https:\/\/voiceofoc.org\/2023\/08\/orange-countys-police-unions-are-increasingly-electing-unseating-their-own-bosses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a>, \u201cOrange County\u2019s Police Unions Are \u200bIncreasingly Electing, Unseating\u200d Their Own Bosses.\u201d The title is\u2062 similar to one\u200c I have been using for about 35 years, and might even have invented, \u201cThe unions want to sit on both sides of the bargaining table.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Voice of OC article began, \u201cIt\u2019s\u200b the story that replays \u200ditself every few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice unions are becoming the biggest spenders in Orange County\u2019s \u200cmunicipal and county elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome local leaders from both political \u2064parties fear it\u2019s creating an environment\u2064 where police have the power to elect\u2014or unseat\u2014the very people they\u2019re supposed to\u200d answer to.<\/p>\n<p>With Anaheim\u2019s police\u2062 union entangled in a City Hall\u200b corruption scandal\u2014and Santa Ana\u2019s spending $371,000 in hopes of successfully recalling a City Council member over police salaries for\u200c the second time in three years\u2014police union politics are \u2064out \u200don full display this year like never before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd in Anaheim\u2019s case, under city investigators\u2019 \u200dfocus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA July 31 report \u2062by independent investigators\u2014hired by the City of Anaheim \u2063in response to an \u200congoing FBI \u200dcorruption probe into \u2064City\u200d Hall\u2014alleged that a powerful network of Disneyland resort interests improperly controlled city policymaking from\u200b the shadows.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u201cCity-hired \u200dinvestigators\u2014themselves former\u2063 police officials\u2014tied\u2063 the police union to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/santa-ana-recall-is-about-union-power-only\/\" title=\"Santa Ana Recall: Union Power at Stake\">forces improperly exerting influence<\/a> at city hall. Investigators highlighted police union efforts opposing a gas\u200d station approval that would have competed with \u200cone owned by a political fundraiser for disgraced former mayor Harry Sidhu.\u201d<br \/>\n   \u200d <\/p>\n<h2>Admission of Union Power<\/h2>\n<p>    Union bosses even\u2063 boast of\u2062 this. In 2021, Alex Caputo-Pearl, formerly \u200bthe vice \u200cpresident of the United\u200d Teachers of Los Angeles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2021\/02\/14\/why-an-orange-county-police-union-is-smearing-john-moorlach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> \u200bto a meeting of his\u200c union, \u201cWe have a unique power\u2014we elect our \u200bbosses. It would \u200bbe difficult to think of workers\u200c anywhere else who elect their \u2063bosses. We\u200c do. We must take advantage of it. &#8230; If we win, they will decide \u200dhow \u200bthe \u200dhundreds of \u200bmillions of dollars\u200d in additional money is used. They will be across\u200b the bargaining table from \u2064us in our huge full\u2063 contract negotiations \u2062in 2022.\u201d\n  <\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u200b   Mr. Caputo-Pearl on July 1 was <a href=\"https:\/\/laborcenter.berkeley.edu\/people\/alex-caputo-pearl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> practitioner-in-residence\u2064 at the UC Berkeley Labor\u200c Center. The website\u2062 said, \u201cHe will build on the \u2063Leadership Development Program\u2019s partnerships with the NEA, \u2064United Teachers Los Angeles \u2063(UTLA), and other educator\u200c unions.\u201d That means he will \u200dbe \u200dteaching the next generation of union officials how to \u201celect our\u2063 own bosses.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Regular Elections<\/h2>\n<p>    \u2064 \u200c Recalls are supposed to be for extraordinary purposes, not recalling someone just four months before a regular election. The union is acting now as \u200ca display \u200bof pure political clout. They want to show, \u200dclearly, in a single up-or-down vote, who is running the city: the people or the unions. Special elections like this one also have much lower turnouts than primary elections, meaning the union campaign cash, derived ultimately from the taxpayers, more \u2062likely\u200c will decide the issue. By contrast, next March\u2019s primary election will feature\u2064 contentious presidential \u200celections for both Democrats \u2063and Republicans.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A friend from Santa Ana, CA, disagreed with my article on the union dominance in the city and the recall of Councilmember Jessie Lopez.
