Raphael\u200d Warnock (D-Ga.)\u2063 failed to\u2064 disclose in the required timely manner $125,000 in deferred compensation he\u2063 received \u200bfor work completed prior \u200cto his 2020 Senate election.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;Sen.\u2063 Warnock\u2019s\u200b apparent violation of federal law and Senate ethics rules is \u200ddisturbing and extremely \u200ctroubling. As he\u200c reported, either Sen. Warnock and\u2064 his church \u200dhad a deferred\u200c compensation agreement that both have \u200dconspicuously failed \u200bto report the existence of for years, or he received outside\u2064 income\u2062 of over four \u2063times\u200b the legal limit,&#8221; said\u2064 Kendra Arnold, Executive Director \u200bof the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factdc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust<\/a> (FACT), in a statement made \u200cavailable to The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;In either case, this would be a major breach of Senate ethics laws \u2062that must immediately be investigated by the Senate Select Committee \u200con Ethics. Chris Coons (D-Del.) and James Lankford (R-Okla.). (Madalina Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At the center \u2064of the FACT\u2064 complaint is a payment Mr. Warnock received from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta for\u2062 work he had done as senior pastor \u200bof the \u200ccongregation prior to being elected to the Senate in a special\u200b runoff election in 2021. His election, along with that of another Georgia Democrat, \u200cSen. Jon Ossoff, in the same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/as-republican-julia-letlow-is-sworn-in-the-democrats-margin-in-the-house-shrinks-to-just-2-votes\/\" title=\"As Republican Julia Letlow Is Sworn In, The Democrats\u2019 Margin In The House Shrinks To Just 2 Votes\">special runoff election<\/a>,\u200d was key to Democrats\u200b retaking the Senate \u2064majority for the first \u2064time \u200bsince 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;According\u2064 to Senator Warnock\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-thomas-releases-9-page-financial-disclosure-report-following-attacks-by-the-left\/\" title=\"Justice Thomas issues 9-page financial disclosure report amidst left-wing criticism.\">2022 financial disclosure report<\/a>, he received $154,895 from Ebenezer Baptist Church, which included\u2063 $125,000 described as &#8216;deferred compensation for services before\u200b January 20, 2021.&#8217; Curiously, this was the first time Sen. \u200bWarnock reported the $125,000 that was claimed \u200dto be earned before he was sworn in as \u2063a \u2062U.S. Senator. Similarly, Ebenezer \u200bBaptist Church reportedly also \u200dfailed to report the liability of\u200c 2\u2063 $125,000 in its prior financial statements for calendar years 2020 and 2021,&#8221; the FACT complaint alleged.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to FACT, Mr. \u2063Warnock\u200b appears to have\u2064 violated one or more federal laws and Senate ethics rules, covering\u200c timely disclosure and restrictions on\u200c the total amount of\u2064 compensation a senator can receive over and above the current $179,000 annual Senate\u2062 salary.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Federal law and Senate ethics \u200brules require Senate candidates and senators to disclose their financial information to the public. As part of these disclosures, each Senator \u2062must \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watchdog-files-ethics-complaint-against-sen-warnock-alleging-undisclosed-church-income\/\" title=\"Watchdog files ethics complaint against Sen. Warnock over undisclosed church income.\">disclose &#8216;deferred compensation&#8217; plans<\/a>, and the &#8216;parties, dates, and terms of the\u200c agreement must be reported,'&#8221; the complaint said. Mr. Warnock has not previously included the Ebenezer deferred compensation \u2062on public \u200bdisclosures\u200b either prior to \u200dwinning election or since.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the income\u200b limit,\u2062 the complaint explained that the Senate Ethics manual provides that \u201cfederal law\u200c and\u2062 Sen<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Warnock was unaware of the requirement to disclose the compensation, which raises concerns about his understanding of ethics rules, or he intentionally failed to disclose it, which raises concerns about his integrity.
