We\u2019re currently\u200b investigating and will share\u200c more information as it becomes available,&#8221;\u200c the airline said.<\/p>\n<p>About 40\u200b minutes later, United said the \u2064&#8221;issue was resolved and the flights have resumed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re \u200cworking \u2064with impacted customers to help them reach their\u2064 destinations\u200b as soon as \u2064possible,&#8221; the company added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">According to flight-tracking website FlightAware, United <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/cancelled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canceled<\/a> a total of seven flights nationwide and delayed another 311 by the time the ground stop\u200b was lifted.<\/div>\n<p>The more\u200c than 200\u200b United flights that were already \u2063in the\u200d air\u200b during the outage did not appear to be affected.<\/p>\n<p>United operates 4,500 daily flights to more than \u2063300 destinations, most of \u200dwhich are within the United States.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg took to X, formerly called Twitter, to say that he was aware of the \u200csituation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Am aware\u200b of \u2062the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-southwest-airlines-grounds-all-planes-across-the-united-states\/\" title=\"Breaking: Southwest Airlines grounds all planes across the United States\">nationwide ground stop<\/a> at United Airlines due to IT issues,&#8221; Mr. Buttigieg wrote. &#8220;FAA is currently receiving more information about the cause and scope of the issue, and DOT will make sure UA meets its obligations to affected passengers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Buttigieg also directed \u200cthose affected\u2063 by\u200b Tuesday&#8217;s ground stops to his department&#8217;s website for more \u200binformation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you are impacted, flightrights.gov has information about customer service commitments enforced by our department when airline problems cause you to\u200d experience \u200bmajor delays or cancellations,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rep. Eric Swalwell\u2062 (D-Calif.), who was flying\u200c on a United plane as the news broke, said\u200c he would \u2062be looking into the tech issues that caused \u2064the outage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    &#8220;I&#8217;m in-flight\u200b on a cross-country United \u200dplane,&#8221; the congressman wrote on X. &#8220;As top Dem on House Cyber Subcommittee I will work to get more information\u2063 to my constituents on \u2062this ground stop and whether it reflects a \u2062cyber \u200dthreat. Standby.&#8221;<br \/>\n   \u200b<\/p>\n<h3>Recent Major Air \u200dTravel Disruption<\/h3>\n<p>    \u200d    On Jan. 11, the FAA \u200csuffered an outage\u200b of its key pilot notification system and was forced to issue a ground stop that lasted almost three hours, canceling more than 1,300 flights nationwide and delaying 10,000 more.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>The FAA later blamed a mistake \u2063that occurred during a \u2063routine maintenance of the Notice to Air Missions\u200d (NOTAM) system, \u2062which\u2062 is responsible for\u2062 generating\u2064 and sending\u2062 key\u2062 information to pilots and \u200dairline dispatchers before a \u200cflight can \u200ctake off, including those \u2063detailing weather, runway closures or\u200b construction, and other hazards that could jeopardize flight safety.<\/p>\n<p>The NOTAM system used to be telephone-based, with \u200dpilots having to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/united-airlines-resumes-flights-after-brief-nationwide-ground-stop\/\" title=\"United Airlines resumes flights after temporary nationwide ground stop.\">call \u200ddedicated flight service stations<\/a> for the information. \u200bbut the system has moved\u200d online.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency&#8217;s \u200cpreliminary review \u200dof<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FAA lifted a nationwide ground stop on United Airlines flights on Tuesday.
