In these instances, politically motivated school boards and administrators have usurped the role \u200dof parents. As we continue to see instances nationwide of government officials actively seeking to replace \u200cparents\u200c as the ultimate determiners \u2063of what\u2019s best for children, it\u2019s critical that\u200b states step up to enshrine parental rights into law.<\/p>\n<h3>What kind of\u200d rights are we talking \u200babout?<\/h3>\n<p>The right and responsibility of \u200cevery parent to decide how his or her child is raised. The rights of moms \u2062and dads to \u200dknow what their children are being\u200c taught in school \u200band to access and review curricula. It\u2019s reasonable to expect parents to be involved in all aspects of their kids\u2019 education, including \u2062opting a child out of a particular lesson on say, gender ideology, human sexuality, or another\u2062 sensitive topic so that parents can discuss those topics at home in\u200c a way that is\u2062 consistent with the family\u2019s beliefs and values. As parents, we also want to\u200c be involved \u2063in our kids\u2019 extracurricular activities. Whether a child signs\u2064 up \u200dfor football or dance, joins the \u200cLGBTQ or chess club \u2014 every parent has the right\u2063 to know \u2062that information, and along with\u2062 her\u2064 child, decide if that \u2063activity \u200dis the best fit for the\u200c child.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, we\u2019re seeing a troubling trend of school districts excluding parents \u2014 going so \u2064far as\u2062 to deliberately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/mom-scores-100000-legal-win-after-school-secretly-transitions-daughter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hide information<\/a> \u2014 about their \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-every-state-needs-to-protect-a-parents-right-to-be-involved-at-school\/\" title=\"Every state must safeguard parental involvement in schools.\">kids\u2019 \u2062potentially life-altering decisions surrounding<\/a> their identity, gender,\u2064 and mental and physical health. \u2062It\u2019s\u2064 in kids\u2019 best interest for parents to be involved any time a \u200cchild \u200bfaces serious issues\u2064 at school, whether academic, \u200csocial, or\u2064 mental or emotional health.<\/p>\n<p>The state of <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/mt-governor-signs-bill-safeguarding-parental-rights?utm_source=dailywire&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Montana<\/a> recognized the importance of enshrining parents\u2019 rights into law and recently enacted <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.mt.gov\/bills\/2023\/billpdf\/HB0676.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold-standard legislation<\/a> that creates guardrails to prevent the government \u2064from interfering with parents\u2019 \u2064fundamental right to direct the education, health \u2064care, and upbringing of their children. In <a href=\"https:\/\/ncleg.gov\/Sessions\/2023\/Bills\/Senate\/PDF\/S49v5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina<\/a>, the legislature recently\u2063 overrode the governor\u2019s veto to enact\u200c strong, pro-parent policies; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.iowa.gov\/docs\/publications\/iactc\/90.1\/CH0091.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/al-governor-signs-bill-safeguarding-parental-rights?utm_source=dailywire&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alabama<\/a> also passed strong parental rights laws. In <a href=\"https:\/\/rules.ok.gov\/d2c03259-4590-47b5-89e8-c3e21345ae8f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> \u2064 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doe.virginia.gov\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/36603\/638059383089400000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia<\/a>, the respective departments of education issued proposed rules and policies that strengthen parental rights. And in <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/az-governor-signs-bill-expand-protections-parental-rights?utm_source=dailywire&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a>,\u2063 parents now have three of the best statutory protections for their rights: a declaration that parental rights are fundamental, a detailed list \u200cof parents\u2019 specific rights to access and approve of learning material, and a legal remedy if those fundamental rights are violated.<\/p>\n<p>Other states should \u200djoin the movement and affirm the pivotal role of parents in a child\u2019s life. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/campaign\/promise-to-americas-parents?utm_source=dailywire&#038;utm_medium=oped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Promise to America\u2019s Parents<\/a> \u2064 underscores, safeguarding parents\u2019 rights through the democratic process ensures transparency so that parents know what is going on in their child\u2019s life. It \u2063gives parents\u200c meaningful \u2063choices as they guide their child\u2019s growth and development. And it empowers parents to \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/activist-who-held-the-five-aborted-babies-explains-why-he-will-never-be-the-same\/\" title=\"Activist Who Held \u2018The Five\u2019 Aborted Babies Explains Why He Will \u2018Never Be The Same\u2019\u00a0\">hold government officials accountable<\/a> when they interfere\u200d with decisions parents make. By \u200dpassing parental rights\u200d laws, legislatures \u200dfrom coast to coast can give parents confidence and assurance that they\u2019re so valuable, lawmakers are preserving their ability to do their job well in the state books.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, when policymakers enact parents\u2019 rights legislation, it trickles down much quicker to the local \u2064level by prompting school boards to\u2064 operate with accountability and \u200ctransparency and to adopt policies that support parents.<\/p>\n<p>No one loves and cares \u2063for a child better\u200d than his parents. And no parent wants the government telling them \u2062what they can and\u200b cannot do. The family unit is the pillar of society and parents are the head of that unit. Respecting the rights of parents to be involved in their kids\u2019 education and make the best \u2064decisions on their behalf transcends\u200d political party, religion, race, and economic\u2064 status.
