Media outlets know people are attracted to the negative. Why? Maybe they\u2019ve been conditioned by the media to \u2063act that way.<\/p>\n<p>Professional athletes are no exception.\u2063 The media loves to focus on the\u2064 negative when things go bad for athletes. Remember when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsworldnews.com\/articles\/71504\/20201217\/top-10-athletes-who-bad-examples-sports.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O.J. Simpson<\/a> stood trial for murder? The trial \u200cwas televised,\u200c and people all over the world were glued to their televisions. \u200bHow about\u2064 Tiger Woods and his affairs with prostitutes and \u200bnightclub owners?\u200d These negative\u2064 incidents involving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-most-conservative-sport-5-ufc-stars-who-dont-hide-their-right-wing-opinions\/\" title=\"\u2018The Most Conservative Sport\u2019: 5 UFC Stars Who Don\u2019t Hide Their Right-Wing Opinions\">professional athletes<\/a> \u200cand \u2063many more have \u200dreceived plenty of\u2062 media coverage.<\/p>\n<p>But what happens\u200b when an athlete does something good? Take Shaquille \u2062O\u2019Neal, for example. He\u2019s known for committing charitable acts, and he\u2019s at it again. \u2063O\u2019Neal walked into\u200b a Best Buy in \u2064Lafayette,\u200b Louisiana, last \u2062week to\u200b inquire about the Samsung \u2064Galaxy\u2064 Z Flip phone, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klfy.com\/local\/lafayette-parish\/shaquille-o-neal-surprises-woman-with-new-phone-at-lafayette-best-buy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KLFY-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kquoella Lewis\u2062 went to Best\u2063 Buy to get an iPad. She noticed a tall\u2064 man walking next to her. It was Shaquille O\u2019Neal.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis told O\u2019Neal her thoughts \u2064on the Galaxy Z, \u2064and\u200d O\u2019Neal told a store employee, \u201cGet two, one for me and one for her.\u201d The Galaxy Z \u2062goes for about $1200.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis said\u200d the other phone wasn\u2019t even for O\u2019Neal\u200c as\u200d he \u200cprefers Apple products, according to KLYF.<\/p>\n<p>So \u2064does the 24\/7 news cycle \u200cfocus\u200b on the negative \u2063too much?<\/p>\n<p>In 1994, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/far-kaep-fallen-oj-simpson-just-made-look-bad-oj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O.J. Simpson<\/a> grabbed the headlines for months when his murder trial was televised. Simpson\u200d was accused of murdering his \u2063ex-wife Nichole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson \u2062was found not guilty of murder, but the \u200cjury of public opinion was not \u200dso \u2062kind. In a later civil trial,\u200c Simpson was\u200d ordered\u2064 to pay \u2064the victims\u2019 families $33.5 million.\u200c There was\u200c tons of media coverage.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ex-girlfriends-30-million-lawsuit-tiger-woods-gets-off-rough-start-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tiger Woods<\/a>, then the \u200chighest-ranking golf player in the world, was \u2062accused of having \u200can affair with Rachel Uchitel. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tiger-woods-launches-blistering-response-sexual-assault-allegations-just-jilted-ex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elin Nordegren<\/a>, Wood\u2019s wife, found out about it. She also \u2063found out about Woods\u2019 involvement \u200cin sex scandals \u200bwith \u200cpornstars, strippers, and prostitutes. Shortly\u200d thereafter, he plotted to kill his pregnant\u200b girlfriend, Cherica Adams. \u200dAdams \u2063died 28 days after a drive-by ambush. You get the picture.<\/p>\n<p>The point is that\u2063 cases like Simpson\u2019s and Woods\u2019\u00a0 are ingrained in the \u200dAmerican psyche. Shaquille \u200bO\u2019Neal\u2019s good deeds \u2014 and there are a\u200b lot of them \u2014 are \u2063more like blips on the radar of \u2062the American consciousness. They are like dreams \u2062that fade upon waking.<\/p>\n<p>How\u2064 many remember when O\u2019Neal decided to pay for everyone\u2019s meals in Jue Lan Club, a popular spot in New York City in \u20622022? There were 40 tables in the place, and O\u2019Neal also left a more\u2062 than\u2062 generous tip, \u2064as reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nba-legend-shaquille-oneal-gives-surprise-every-customer-packed-restaurant-orders-staff-keep-secret-leaves\/?ff_source=Email&#038;ff_medium=newsletter&#038;ff_campaign=dailyam&#038;ff_content=western-journal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The\u200c Western Journal<\/a>.\u00a0 O\u2019Neal didn\u2019t want to draw attention to himself and asked the \u200cstaff not to mention that\u2062 he was\u200b paying \u200cthe tab until after he left.<\/p>\n<p>How many \u2062remember when O\u2019Neal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/shaquille-oneal-brings-elementary-school-students-tears-shows-thousands-big-surprises\/?ff_source=Email&#038;ff_medium=newsletter&#038;ff_campaign=dailyam&#038;ff_content=western-journal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donated thousands of Christmas gifts<\/a> to children who otherwise might have gone without?<\/p>\n<p>And then there was the time O\u2019Neal was out shopping and decided to buy an engagement ring for a complete stranger, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N2TAXwnmuWI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a> reported. Though\u2064 the man initially refused the offer, O\u2019Neal convinced him \u2064by saying, \u2063\u201cThis is\u2062 something I do every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In February 2022, O\u2019Neal took out a family with nine\u200b kids for dinner. When\u200c he heard they were having car woes, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoevolution.com\/news\/the-portrayal-of-generosity-shaquille-o-neal-buys-family-two-new-cars-tips-waitress-1k-182496.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bought them two\u2062 new cars<\/a>.
