The act aims \u200dto bring federal employees \u200cback to the office within 30 days\u2063 of passage and requires agencies to submit studies on how telework has affected their mission. It also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/labor-days-biden-faces-gop-pressure-to-order-federal-workers-back-to-the-office\/\" title=\"GOP pressures Biden to recall federal workers to the office on Labor Day.\">prohibits permanent remote positions<\/a> until formal \u200c&#8221;telework plans&#8221; have been approved.<\/p>\n<p>While the SHOW UP Act passed in the \u2062House of Representatives \u200bin \u200bFebruary,\u200c it has made \u200bno progress in \u2063the \u2064Democratic-controlled Senate.\u2062 President Joe Biden has \u200dexpressed his intention to\u200c bring federal workers back into office buildings, \u200cbut the process has been slow. This prompted the Oversight Committee to send a letter requesting data and\u200d details on\u2064 telework policies at \u200d25 government \u2063agencies.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;By suggesting that in-person work \u2064would lead to improved \u2064outcomes, your email implies that the \u2063Biden administration\u2019s widespread use of post-pandemic federal telework has resulted in\u200d reduced\u2063 productivity, diminished customer \u2064service,\u2063 and worse \u200boverall returns for the American\u200c taxpayer,&#8221;<\/p>\n<footer>The Oversight \u200bCommittee&#8217;s\u2063 letter to \u2062Jeff Zients<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans have raised concerns about \u2064specific services\u2064 being affected by remote work, such as passport processing backlogs and delays within the Veterans Affairs\u200b Department. The\u2063 slow \u200bresponse from the White House \u200dmay be influenced by labor unions, which generally support \u2062remote work. However, conservatives have \u200dfound an unexpected ally in local\u2064 governments, with Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser calling for federal employees to either return to the office or \u2064vacate the real estate for \u200cnew housing.<\/p>\n<p>A council representing 23 local \u200dgovernments has also urged more in-person work\u200c in a letter\u2063 to the Office of Management and Budget.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We employ roughly 100,000 outstanding individuals, and the large\u200b majority of our employees work in-person\u200c on a full-time \u200bbasis. For those who\u200b are eligible to telework, employees \u2064typically report\u200d to work in-person two to\u200c three \u2062days \u2064a week. We have found that this strikes an appropriate balance and provides the best level of service for taxpayers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<footer>The letter from the council representing 23 local governments<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The House Oversight Committee has made several requests \u200bto Jeff Zients, including an explanation for\u2064 his \u2063call to \u2062return to the \u200boffice\u200b and whether the White House is aware \u2064of\u2063 any performance issues with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wholly-inadequate-federal-agencies-have-no-system-to-check-whether-remote-employees-are-actually-working\/\" title=\"\u2018Wholly Inadequate\u2019: Federal Agencies Have No System To Check Whether Remote Employees Are Actually Working\">remote employees<\/a>.
