Now, it\u2019s even obvious to normies. Perhaps no journalist has covered the rising iceberg tips of this phenomenon better than Christopher F. Rufo, a \u2064City Journal contributing\u200d editor and documentary \u2062filmmaker.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200d <em>America\u2019s \u200dCultural \u2063Revolution<\/em>, \u2062out in July, Rufo connects the seemingly sudden wave\u2062 of leftist extremism in the United States with its antecedents in Marxist philosophy and practice. He shows that today\u2019s \u2064mass, often-silent censorship of public discourse combined with riots and antipathy toward \u200cpolice and \u2064prisons\u2064 are not random \u2062accidents, but part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/christopher-rufos-new-book-shows-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-are-the-new-face-of-communism\/\" title=\"Rufo's book reveals diversity, equity, and inclusion as communism's new face.\">cohesive political program concocted decades ago<\/a> by successful communist\u2063 true believers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This is an important thing to demonstrate because comforting slogans have \u2062lulled \u2062many Americans, including many on the political\u2062 right, into willful blindness\u200c to\u200d the\u2064 mass infiltration of our own institutions by communist ideology\u200c and adherents. These include:\u2062 \u201cFight them over there so we \u2062don\u2019t \u2062have to\u200c fight them over here,\u201d \u201cthe Cold War is over,\u201d and \u201cCommunism\u2019s main threat to \u2062the United States\u2063 is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-you-suggesting-air-strikes-in-cuba-martha-maccallum-presses-miami-mayor-on-how-us-should-intervene\/\" title=\"\u2018Are You Suggesting Air Strikes In Cuba?\u2019: Martha MacCallum Presses Miami Mayor On How US Should Intervene\">potential military action<\/a> \u200dfrom Red\u2064 China.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many politicians, especially on the right, bluster about protecting the United \u200dStates \u2062from Red China, both militarily and economically. \u200cMost\u2064 of those same politicians are entirely silent about communist infiltration into U.S. \u2062institutions \u200bas everyday\u200c and deeply influential as\u200c public \u200bschools and\u2064 workplaces.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no\u200c way, for example, the \u200cmajority of current \u200bSenate\u2063 Republicans\u200d would support defunding Marxist outposts far\u200c more threatening to the United States \u2064than China\u2019s soft-power Confucious Institutes: diversity, equity, and inclusion bureaucracies, including in higher education. As the Supreme Court noted in <em>Bostock v.\u2064 Clayton County<\/em>, more than \u2063100\u200b federal laws are now being used as excuses to foist Marxist-driven DEI\u200b policies into \u2062every corner of \u200dAmerican society.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s impossible to know whether most\u200b lawmakers who could end this subversion of\u2064 American freedoms are complicit \u2062or stooges. Considering that,\u2063 as \u200dRufo\u2062 shows,\u200b cultural Marxists believe in their intellectual father Herbert Marcuse\u2019s policy of repressing \u2063not just speech but even thoughts that oppose their ideology, perhaps instead the issue is that their minds are \u2063captive to \u200cAmerica\u2019s enemies. Regardless, voters and those they elect can no longer ignore the proof of this mass subversion that Rufo\u2019s book puts into \u2062the public eye.<\/p>\n<h2>Marxists Take America\u2019s \u200dCommanding Heights<\/h2>\n<p>Rufo\u2064 grounds \u2063this reality with deep \u200breadings \u2062of American cultural Marxists. In their own words, he shows, they desire to\u200b overthrow the American constitutional order. Identity politics \u2063is the core strategy \u200daround which they\u2019ve most recently converged.<\/p>\n<p>One of Rufo\u2019s top examples of this is Marxist academic and \u200brace hustler Angela Davis: \u201cDavis, according to Marcuse, had\u2063 taken the critical theorists to their logical conclusion:\u200c violent resistance \u200dagainst the state,\u201d Rufo notes (74).<\/p>\n<p>After being acquitted of assisting in a jailbreak and judge assassination for\u2064 which she bought weapons in 1970, Davis burrowed into academia, mentoring an entire \u200bgeneration of\u200c disciples who colonized the academy with Marxist ideology.\u200b She later \u200demerged as the evil godmother of \u200bthe massive 2020\u200d Black Lives Matter riots.<\/p>\n<h2>Groundhog Day for the 1960s<\/h2>\n<p><em>America\u2019s\u2063 Cultural Revolution<\/em> is written in four parts. \u2064Rufo starts with the origins of critical theory\u200d among avowedly Marxist intellectuals, then\u2064 documents \u2062how\u200d it\u200d explicitly motivated anti-American violence from 1960s race riots, ambushes of police, and bank\u2062 robberies to today\u2019s \u200dGeorge Floyd riots and \u200dongoing \u200bAntifa\u2062 violence in Portland (and anywhere\u2064 else kinetic action would\u2064 be useful to Democrat Party goals).<\/p>\n<p>He shows that after \u200ctheir street violence didn\u2019t inspire \u2062the large-scale revolution among \u2064America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-donalds-speaks-out-against-democrats\/\" title=\"Rep. Donalds speaks out against Democrats\">lower class<\/a> they expected in the\u200c 1960s and\u200b \u201970s, American communists chose another strategy: working into American centers \u2063of \u200bcultural influence, especially education and media.\u200b The Marxists switched from economic \u200dclass\u200c warfare to\u2063 cultural warfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strategy was less violence; more \u200cmanipulation,\u201d summarizes Charles Haywood in <a href=\"https:\/\/im1776.com\/2023\/07\/20\/america-cultural-revolution-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his review<\/a> of the book.<\/p>\n<p>Critical theory\u2019s nihilism didn\u2019t stay in universities, as the blind hoped for\u2062 many years. From universities\u2019 control\u200b over\u2062 knowledge-class job entry, cultural Marxism radiated out to K-12 schools, business,\u200d bureaucracy, and media.<\/p>\n<p>As everyone is by now \u2062aware, installing \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2023\/08\/christopher-rufo-book-americas-cultural-revolution\/674908\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">freaks\u201d and \u201cmadmen<\/a>\u201d in universities had trickle-down \u2064effects into public \u200bschools, where DEI Marxism is\u200d the dominant \u2064ethics teaching. \u201cAs the Heritage Foundation discovered, 79 percent of school districts\u2063 with\u200d more than 100,000 students\u2063 have \u2063hired a \u2018chief diversity officer\u2019 \u200dand implemented university-style \u2018diversity, equity, and inclusion\u2019 programming,\u201d Rufo \u2064notes\u200c (167).<\/p>\n<p>Every Fortune 100 company has adopted DEI practices as \u2062well, making at \u200dleast lip service to Marxist religions\u2063 an essentially inescapable requirement for academic and \u2063professional \u200badvancement in the \u2062United States.<\/p>\n<p>Shifting\u200c major media by indoctrinating their employees in identity \u2064politics at \u200duniversity also massively boosted\u2063 the New \u200bLeft Marxists\u2019\u2064 control of public discourse. The\u2062 New York \u200cTimes, Rufo\u2062 notes, \u201cpenetrates the consciousness of 100 million readers, plus\u200d immense secondary audiences on\u2064 television,\u2064 radio, and social media. If the university provided \u2064the \u200ctheory of \u200cthe revolution,\u2062 the paper provided the mechanism for transmission. \u2026 As the\u200d <em>Times<\/em> changed, the other \u2064primary channels of left-learning media followed suit: the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, NPR, MSNBC\u2064 \u2014 \u2062even the wire services \u200d\u2014 all\u200c converged on the framing and language \u2064of the New Left\u201d (57).<\/p>\n<p>Recent <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/14\/6-takeaways-from-the-biden-admins-court-quest-to-keep-censoring-americans-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revelations <\/a>of government censorship choking the spread of reporting\u2064 from New York Times competitors only amplify this cultural hegemony of Marxist \u2064messaging.<\/p>\n<h2>1776 Versus \u200b1965<\/h2>\n<p>The book\u2019s last chapter, \u200btitled\u200c \u201cThe Counter-Revolution to Come,\u201d is a little disappointing, as it talks broadly about \u200dforming \u2062a counterrevolutionary \u200cforce but with few specifics. \u200cPerhaps Rufo\u2062 expects\u2063 enough readers will be aware of <a href=\"https:\/\/christopherrufo.com\/p\/bring-on-the-counterrevolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his policy\u2062 work elsewhere<\/a> \u2062 that has included \u2064detailed specifics, including <a href=\"https:\/\/christopherrufo.com\/p\/resources-for-fighting-crt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ways to root out<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">critical race theory<\/a> within states, versions \u200dof which 22 \u2064states have\u2062 so far adopted. I\u2019ve <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2021\/08\/04\/7-ways-the-conservative-movement-should-fight-critical-race-theory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">also \u200c <\/a>suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/08\/03\/a-guide-to-long-term-strategic-thinking-for-parents-who-oppose-crt-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of Rufo\u2019s \u200bbest points\u200c in this closing \u2063is a perennial one against leftism, which has now gone through \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.encounterbooks.com\/books\/war-american-republic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at least three waves<\/a> of patent failure yet \u200dkeeps being \u2064reinvented and tried again.\u2063 \u201c[T]he ideology of the elite has not demonstrated any capacity \u2063to solve the problems of the masses, even on its own terms,\u201d he writes.\u200c \u201cThe critical theories operate by pure negation, demolishing\u200b middle-class\u200c structures and stripping down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prager-given-how-flawed-human-nature-is-america-has-been-a-remarkable-moral-achievement\/\" title=\"PRAGER: Given How Flawed Human Nature Is, America Has Been A Remarkable Moral Achievement\">middle-class values<\/a>, which serves the interest of the bureaucracy but leaves the society in a \u2064state \u2064of permanent disintegration\u201d \u2063(273).<\/p>\n<p>Dispositionally, \u200bRufo seems a sunny\u200d man, at least to\u200c judge by \u2063his Twitter and articles. That\u2019s good because people need hope. We need to believe \u200bthis evil empire of bureaucracy will\u2063 someday fall\u200d and that we can help make it \u200dhappen. However, there\u2019s\u200b another side of \u2063history, in which sometimes the fall of great evils takes a very long time and causes \u2063a very large amount of \u2064pain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governing institutions in Portland have \u2063reached\u200d the strange paradox\u2063 in which \u200cthe state, \u200cthrough\u200d the organs of education, is agitating for its own destruction,\u201d \u200bhe notes. \u201cThey have condemned the entire structure of the social order and \u200bcelebrated\u200b the figures who would \u200dtear it down. They might get what they wish \u2062for, although not in\u200b the way they\u2062 imagine,\u201d Rufo writes \u2063(201).<\/p>\n<p>If it can happen in \u200bPortland, it can happen \u200belsewhere too. It\u2019s not a \u200bsure thing that\u200d people will look at Portland \u2062and\u2063 decide \u2063to walk the other way. Americans \u2062are\u200c not genetically immune to the part\u2063 of human nature that\u200c sees utopian self-immolation \u200dand throws itself\u200b into \u2064the \u200cflames.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why those who \u2064are capable of seeing must understand exactly where these evil ideologies \u2063lead and join to fight for our right to live in \u200dpeace under our traditional constitutional order. <em>America\u2019s Cultural Revolution<\/em> \u200d makes \u2064it very clear.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ten years ago, suggesting a cultural revolution in the United States would have been met with skepticism.
