It works\u2063 because \u2063the left has spent \u200dclose to a decade-and-a-half and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restorationofamerica.com\/?p=51837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">untold \u2063billions of dollars<\/a> building a get-out-the-vote \u2063machine that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restorationofamerica.com\/restoration-news\/eric\/activists-are-screwing-up-wisconsins-elections-its-time-to-stop-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abuses IRS charity laws to win elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under normal\u200c rules, eligible \u2064Americans must register\u2064 to vote\u200b on their own initiative, usually \u2064at their county registrar or\u2063 online\u2062 through the state\u2062 motor vehicle \u2063department. It\u2019s a \u2064simple,\u2063 fair \u200cthing\u200d to \u200bask \u200dpeople \u200bto show an interest in voting and then verify their identity before they\u200c cast \u200da ballot; that\u2019s how our country \u200chas run elections for nearly 250 years.<\/p>\n<p>AVR transforms that opt-in system into an opt-out mess by adding virtually everyone with a heartbeat to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-block-plan-to-remove-foreign-nationals-from-voter-rolls\/\" title=\"Democrats Block Plan to Remove Foreign Nationals from Voter Rolls\">state voter rolls<\/a>, instantly and dramatically expanding the pool of \u2062registered voters for \u200bthe left to cynically\u2063 tap into. Don\u2019t want to \u2064be added to a publicly\u2063 accessible \u2062list? Too bad \u2014 it\u2019s on you to take \u2064the initiative to unregister, Democrats say.<\/p>\n<p>How many voters are \u200bwe talking about? 158 \u2064million\u2063 ballots were cast in 2020. Yet Demos, the think \u2064tank of the far left and an AVR champion, \u200bestimates there are \u2064as many \u2064as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/data\/tables\/time-series\/demo\/voting-and-registration\/p20-585.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">77 million<\/a> eligible-but<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/with-automatic-voter-registration-say-hello-to-permanent-democrat-power\/\" title=\"With Automatic Voter Registration, Democrats Gain Permanent Power.\">-unregistered individuals nationwide \u2014 folks<\/a> \u2062who could lawfully vote but\u2063 may not\u2062 until they\u2019re\u2063 registered\u200d to vote \u200din their respective states.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Not every\u2062 one of them would \u200csupport Democrats\u200d if \u200cregistered,\u200d of course, but even winning \u2064a \u2063fraction would be enough\u200d to ensure Democratic presidential \u200dwins for a\u2063 generation \u200dor longer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s\u200b why AVR \u2064is supported by the Brennan Center, the origin of the left\u2019s most odious election \u201creforms,\u201d \u2063and the Center \u2063for American Progress, which boasted in 2018 that AVR could add \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/increasing-voter-participation-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">22 million newly registered voters nationwide<\/a> \u2063 in just its first year. Note \u200dthat Minnesota\u2019s recent election law includes AVR alongside \u201cnon-English voting materials\u201d and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/walz-signs-democracy-for-the-people-act-allowing-automatic-voter-registration-pre-registration-for-teens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pre-registration of 16-year-olds to vote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To \u200chear \u2064leftists \u2062crow, you\u2019d think the\u200c United States never \u200bran a\u2062 free election in centuries without AVR laws. The LGBT Movement Advancement Project, which dinks red states for their voter ID \u200blaws, \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapresearch.org\/democracy-maps\/ratings_by_state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">considers AVR \u2064essential<\/a> to the health of a state\u2019s\u200d \u201cdemocracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AVR is needed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/to-save-democracy-we-need-truly-automatic-voter-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to save \u200cdemocracy<\/a>,\u201d\u2064 according to the Daily Beast. Without it,\u200d America \u200bisn\u2019t \u2062a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.populardemocracy.org\/news-and-publications\/automatic-voter-registration-will-make-america-real-democracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">real democracy<\/a>,\u201d lies the \u2062extremist\u2064 Center for\u200d Popular Democracy. FairVote, which also \u2064wants\u2064 to <a href=\"https:\/\/fairvote.org\/archives\/reform_library-national_popular_vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">replace\u200b the Electoral College<\/a> with a national \u200bpopular vote \u2063for president, considers AVR \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fairvote.org\/4_reasons_why_adopting_automatic_voter_registration_is_good_for_american_democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">good for\u2063 American democracy<\/a>.\u201d \u200bDitto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/our-work\/voting-and-elections\/voter-registration-modernization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Common Cause<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/automatic-voter-registration-house-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GQ<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectvote.org\/press-releases\/congressional-democrats-introduce-transformative-automatic-voter-registration-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Project \u200dVote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Conservatives have been too\u200b shortsighted to \u2062pay attention,\u2063 but leftists have been tapping\u2064 this goldmine \u2064for years. Of the \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/elections-and-campaigns\/automatic-voter-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">23 states<\/a> \u200c with AVR laws, only \u200bthree are consistently run by\u2063 Republicans: Georgia, West Virginia, and Alaska.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Michigan enacted AVR\u2063 in 2018 after a <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Michigan_Proposal_3,_Voting_Policies_in_State_Constitution_Initiative_(2018)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lobbying campaign<\/a> by the ACLU, Sierra Club, United\u200b Auto Workers, and socialist group Our Revolution. In my home\u2064 state of Virginia, where legislators are capped on\u2062 the number of bills they may introduce in a single session, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/bills\/67559\/HB235\/close-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats made introducing AVR a top\u2063 priority<\/a> when\u2062 they held total power in 2020. It\u2063 passed on a partisan split.<\/p>\n<p>Incoming congressional Democrats, fresh from retaking the House of Representatives in 2018, \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/futureforumcaucus-allred.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/incoming-future-forum-leadership-call-automatic-voter-registration-provision-hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanded<\/a> Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi, D\u2013Calif., \u201cexpand automatic voter registration across \u2062the country\u201d as part of their \u201cupcoming democracy bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They got their wish with the 2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/hoyer.house.gov\/content\/hoyer-floor-remarks-support-hr-4-voting-rights-advancement-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voting Rights Advancement\u2064 Act<\/a>,\u201d then again with the 2021 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For the People Act<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/2301?s=1&#038;r=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Automatic\u2062 Voter Registration Act<\/a>,\u201d and most recently with the 2023 \u2063\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sarbanes.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/sarbanes-reintroduces-freedom-vote-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Freedom\u200b to Vote Act<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that running elections and maintaining voter rolls are the duty of the states,\u2063 not Uncle Sam, yet Democrats would force\u200b all 50 states\u200b to \u2063severely \u200bbloat their voter files. America\u2019s voter rolls are already in bad shape, despite\u2062 (mostly red) states\u2019 best efforts to clean them up.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia recently announced\u200d it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/georgia-identifies-432k-voters-through-eric-who-moved-or-died\/4WPD2JEPYRFQVC5GG2ASQ5YHO4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">removed 432,000 inactive voters<\/a> from its rolls since 2021. Virginia\u2064 removed\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtkr.com\/news\/virginias-dept-of-elections-commissioner-explains-why-114-000-voters-were-removed-from-rolls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">114,000<\/a> inactive voters in\u200c 2021; Oklahoma another \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahomawatch.org\/2019\/04\/22\/nearly-90000-inactive-oklahomans-removed-from-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">90,000<\/a> \u2062in 2019; Kentucky dropped\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wymt.com\/2023\/02\/10\/more-than-100000-inactive-ky-voters-removed-voter-rolls-friday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">127,000<\/a> in 2023; \u2063Arkansas may remove\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2023\/jul\/15\/voter-registration-information-being-updated-some\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">300,000<\/a> \u200d inactive voters this\u2063 year; Pennsylvania dropped\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/pennsylvania-settles-voter-roll-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">180,000<\/a> in 2023;\u200c and Rhode\u2063 Island removed another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/02\/16\/ri-secretary-of-state-purges-voter-rolls-to-eliminate-bloat\/69906569007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">60,000<\/a> inactive voters earlier this year.\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/04\/17\/use-it-or-lose-it-bill-that-could-strip-inactive-texas-voters-registration-advances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpbonline.org\/blogs\/news\/mississippi-legislature-passes-bill-to-purge-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mississippi<\/a> are \u2063weighing \u200bbills that would allow them to more aggressively cull inactive voters from their rolls.<\/p>\n<p>States are required by \u2063law to keep accurate voter files, to the left\u2019s chagrin. Ohio, which\u2062 culled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/2021\/2021-01-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">116,000<\/a> \u200binactive voters\u200c from\u2063 its \u2062rolls \u200din 2021,\u2064 knows best\u2064 how much leftists loathe what they \u200bcall \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brennancenter.org\/issues\/ensure-every-american-can-vote\/vote-suppression\/voter-purges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voter purges<\/a>.\u201d In 2017, then-attorney \u2062general Eric Holder tried \u2064to block Ohio from removing inactive voters as\u2063 one of the\u2063 last acts of the Obama\u2063 administration \u2014 only to \u200close the next year in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/ohio-wins-supreme-court-fight-over-voter-registration-n873226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landmark Supreme Court ruling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is obvious: Democrats\u200d don\u2019t \u200dwant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-plans-to-cut-100000-names-off-state-voter-rolls-in-major-list-maintenance-effort\/\" title=\"Georgia Plans To Cut 100,000 Names Off State Voter Rolls In \u2018Major List Maintenance Effort\u2019\">accurate voter rolls<\/a>; they want\u200d swollen \u2064voter rolls. Left-wing NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/04\/11\/711779753\/report-voter-rolls-are-growing-due-to-automatic-voter-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admits as much<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is bad\u2062 election \u2062policy, and it isn\u2019t cheap. Nevada\u2019s AVR policy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvsos.gov\/sos\/home\/showdocument?id=4715\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cost taxpayers $4.8 million<\/a> to \u200cimplement, plus more to maintain\u2062 it.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise that the left\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/public-support-for-liberal-immigration-policies-plummets-as-border-crisis-worsens\/\" title=\"Public Support for Liberal Immigration Policies Plummets as Border Crisis Worsens\">big-money donors<\/a>\u2062 are in on the action. We\u2019ve traced hundreds of thousands of dollars since 2017 to implementing\u200d AVR in the\u200c states from \u200bthe Tides Foundation, Pierre Omidyar\u2019s Democracy Fund,\u200d the Joyce Foundation (whose board once\u200c included then-Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joycefdn.org\/about\/history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barack Obama<\/a>), and the\u2064 Carnegie Corporation. One six-figure \u2064Carnegie grant to the University of Southern California is even tagged for\u2064 studying \u201cthe state-level impact\u200d of automatic \u2064voter registration \u2026 [on] the \u2064national Latino electorate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For\u200c Republicans, fighting AVR is a no-brainer.\u200b To the detriment of \u2063election integrity, Congress and the states have\u2063 already made registering to vote and casting\u200b a ballot extremely easy. What we need are cleaner voter rolls and more \u200bsecure elections, not a public subsidy for the Democrats\u2019 get-out-the-vote machine.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>high voter turnout, and AVR is seen as a means to achieve this.
