The agency\u2063 has now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/respiratory-viruses\/whats-new\/covid-19-variant.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/respiratory-viruses\/whats-new\/covid-19-variant.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expressed concern regarding\u200d the efficacy of protection\u2063 from \u2062vaccinations <\/a>and \u200bprior infections due to the large number of mutations found in this specific lineage.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe large number of mutations\u200b in this variant raises \u2062concerns of greater escape from existing immunity \u2064from vaccines and previous infections compared with other recent variants,\u201d the CDC stated. \u201cFor example, one analysis of mutations suggests the\u200d difference may be as large as or greater than that between\u200c BA.2 and XBB.1.5, which circulated nearly a year apart.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the CDC, \u201cvirus samples are not yet\u2064 broadly available for more reliable laboratory\u200d testing of antibodies, and it is \u200ctoo soon\u200d to\u2062 know the real-world \u2063impacts on immunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although a bit more data was given, the FDA stated that it had discovered at least \u2063two \u2062cases in the United States that\u2064 had the BA.2.86 variation. Israel, the UK, South Africa, and Denmark were also discovered to have it.<\/p>\n<p>One of the BA.2.86 cases was discovered in a person identified by \u2063the \u200dCDC\u2019s traveler monitoring program, and it was observed that the discovery\u200b of cases in other nations provides proof of global transmission.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cNotably, the amount of genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 globally has declined substantially from previous years, meaning more variants may emerge and spread undetected\u2064 for longer periods of time,\u201d the assessment reads.\u2063 \u201cIt is also important to note that the current increase in hospitalizations in the United States is not likely driven\u2064 by the BA.2.86 \u200dvariant. This assessment may change as \u200dadditional data become available.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u200bmajority of Americans, according\u200c to the \u200cCDC, \u200dhave COVID-19 antibodies from\u200d a prior infection, \u200da vaccine, or both. <\/p>\n<p>However, \u200cthe EPA declared on August 23<sup>rd<\/sup> that the BA.2.86 lineage is not likely to be the cause of \u2063the recent small\u200c rise in hospital admissions in the\u2064 United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAt this time, we don\u2019t know how well this \u2062variant spreads, but we know that \u2063it spreads \u2062in the same way\u200d as other variants,\u201d the agency further stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The BA.2.86 is a \u201cvariant under monitoring,\u201d according to a \u200csenior WHO \u200dofficial, who also noted that there is \u201climited\u201d information available about the variation.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, other experts cautioned against making\u200b quick assumptions\u2063 about the variant.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201c[The] Intrinsic severity of a virus is a byproduct of many traits, a product of selection on \u2063other features. Any attempt to\u200c guess the intrinsic\u2063 severity \u2062of BA.2.86 (within reasonable parameters) is just\u2062 that\u2014a guess,\u201d Aris Katzourakis, a biologist with the University of Oxford, wrote. \u201cIt is far, \u200bfar too early to evaluate \u2063the potential of this variant.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u201cimproved and\u2064 updated\u201d COVID-19 vaccinations\u200c are expected to be released this fall by Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax, most likely making\u2064 them accessible to\u200d people of all ages. \u2064The U.S. Food\u200d and Drug Administration is also expected\u2064 to approve the vaccination booster doses in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a \u2062small number of establishments, including corporations,\u200c schools, offices, \u2064and hospitals, recently decided to reinstate mask regulations. <\/p>\n<p>This sparked worries among some social media users that a larger move to \u200dreimpose \u200crequirements may \u2062be undertaken in the fall or winter \u200bin the United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cEmployees\u200c must wear a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lionsgate-film-studio-reinstates-mask-mandates-effective-immediately-until-further-notice\/\" title=\"Lionsgate Film Studio brings back mask mandates 'immediately' and 'until further notice'.\">medical-grade face covering<\/a>\u200c (surgical mask, KN95 or N95) when indoors except when alone in an office with\u200d the door closed, actively eating, actively drinking at their\u2062 desk or workstation, or if they\u2062 are the only individual present in a large open workspace,\u201d an unnamed Lionsgate\u200b manager wrote \u2063in a memo that was released to the press.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
