Adam Schiff of California and Tim Kaine of Virginia, have\u2064 voiced \u2064their \u2062support for the\u200c theory that former President Donald\u2063 Trump could be disqualified from running in the \u200c2024 \u2062election under the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Section 3 \u200cof \u200dthe 14th Amendment states\u2062 that anyone who &#8220;engaged in insurrection&#8221; cannot hold\u200b elected office. Schiff \u200dand Kaine believe that Trump&#8217;s actions \u2062during the Capitol attack on\u200b January 6, 2021, \u2064qualify as insurrection \u2063and therefore disqualify him from running for office.<\/p>\n<p>Free Speech For\u2063 People, a\u2062 Democratic-aligned group, has also sent letters to secretaries of state in key 2024 states, urging them to remove Trump from\u2063 the ballot.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Today, we \u2063\u2066<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FSFP?\">@FSFP<\/a>\u2069 + \u2066<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MiFamiliaVota?\">@MiFamiliaVota<\/a>\u2069 issued \u2064letters to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-push-to-disqualify-trump-from-2024-using-the-14th-amendment\/\" title=\"Efforts to bar Trump from 2024 via the 14th Amendment.\">chief election officials<\/a> of five\u200c more states (FL, NH, NM, OH, and WI) making clear that they must\u2062 enforce the\u2063 constitutional mandate\u2062 of 14.3 and bar Trump from the ballot. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x03mpZlF8F\">https:\/\/t.co\/x03mpZlF8F<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John \u200cBonifaz \u200d(@JohnBonifaz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnBonifaz\/status\/1696959237585318104?\">August 30, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schiff, speaking on MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Inside \u2062with Jen Psaki,&#8221; stated\u2063 that disqualifying Trump &#8220;fits Donald Trump \u200cto a T.&#8221; He emphasized that engaging in acts of insurrection \u2063or rebellion\u2062 against the\u2062 government, or providing \u2064aid and comfort to those who do, should result in disqualification, regardless of \u200ca\u2063 conviction.<\/p>\n<p>Kaine,\u2062 in an interview with ABC News,\u2064 also expressed support for disqualification, arguing\u2064 that the \u200battack on the \u2064Capitol \u200bwas \u2063intended to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power outlined in the Constitution. He acknowledged that the\u200c matter will likely be resolved in\u200c the courts.<\/p>\n<p>However, not everyone \u200bagrees with this theory.
