This \u2064bacteria has been \u2063found in multiple\u200d states across \u200bthe country, posing a significant risk to public health.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC revealed that there are\u2063 approximately 80,000 reported cases of Vibrio bacteria illnesses each year in \u2064the United States. While \u200bthere are different \u2062types of Vibrio bacteria, including <em>Vibrio parahaemolyticus<\/em> and <em>Vibrio alginolyticus<\/em>, the \u2062most deadly \u200done is <em>Vibrio vulnificus<\/em>. This particular\u2063 strain can cause\u200c death within just one or two days. Infection\u2064 can occur through exposure to the organism, such as through\u200c an open\u2062 wound, cut, or bite \u200dthat\u2062 comes \u200binto contact with \u200cinfected water, undercooked or raw shellfish, or direct consumption of \u200cshellfish.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>V. vulnificus<\/em> wound infections have \u2062a short incubation period and are characterized by\u2062 necrotizing skin and soft tissue infection,&#8221; the CDC warns. In some cases, individuals may develop bleeding blisters. \u2064If left untreated,\u200c the infection can spread throughout \u2062the\u2062 body and cause blood poisoning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The CDC advises people with \u200copen wounds to avoid \u200cbrackish or saltwater and to\u2062 leave the water immediately if they \u2063receive \u200ca cut while swimming. Wounds should be treated with a waterproof bandage\u200d and washed\u200c with\u200c soap and clean water.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Initiate Treatment Promptly&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>If individuals\u2062 believe they \u200chave an infection\u200d after swimming, the CDC emphasizes the importance of seeking treatment promptly, as it significantly improves\u200d the chances of survival. \u200dIt&#8217;s\u200d worth noting that the bacteria has developed some\u200b resistance to antibiotics, and approximately 50 \u200cpercent of infections do not\u2062 respond to treatment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Initiate treatment promptly.
