This,\u2063 in turn, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/people-rarely-transmit-covid-19-before-experiencing-symptoms-lancet-study\/\" title=\"Lancet Study: COVID-19 Transmission Uncommon Before Symptoms.\">helped drive draconian universal masking\u200c policies<\/a>, including in schools, in a bid to reduce the spread of \u200dCOVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), initially discouraged universal mask-wearing early in the pandemic but later did a U-turn.<\/p>\n<p>Initially,\u200d \u201cwe didn\u2019t realize the\u2063 extent of asymptotic spread,&#8221; Dr. \u2064Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/washington-post-live\/fauci-on-how-his-thinking-has-evolved-on-masks-asymptomatic-transmission\/2020\/07\/24\/799264e2-0f35-4862-aca2-2b4702650a8b_video.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in\u2063 July 2020,<\/a> adding that later, &#8220;we fully realized that there are a lot \u200dof people who\u200b are asymptomatic who \u2064are spreading infection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So it became clear that we absolutely should be wearing masks\u2064 consistently,\u201d Dr. Fauci said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>But new\u2063 research calls into question the significance \u200bof the threat of silent transmission, which \u200ccomes \u200cas COVID-19\u2062 cases are on the rise in America, \u200ddriving what some are calling \u2064a renewed pandemic \u200c&#8221;hysteria&#8221; and calls \u2064for a fresh round of \u2063restrictions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-fda-head-mask-mandates-should-end-in-wholesale-fashion-officials-need-to-rollback-restrictions-to-keep-integrity\/\" title=\"Former FDA Head: Mask Mandates Should End In \u2018Wholesale Fashion,\u2019 Officials Need To Rollback Restrictions To Keep \u2018Integrity\u2019\">including mask mandates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Very Few Emissions&#8217; Before Symptom Onset<\/h2>\n<p>The\u200c new study,\u200c published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanmic\/article\/PIIS2666-5247(23)00101-5\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August issue<\/a> of The Lancet&#8217;s Microbe \u2062journal, shows that people who are sick with COVID-19 but don&#8217;t show any symptoms have \u200ba limited ability to spread the virus to other people.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the British\u2062 study, which was carried out by researchers at \u2062Imperial College London, were unvaccinated healthy adults aged 18-30 who were intentionally infected with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The subjects \u200cwere monitored under controlled\u2063 circumstances while self-reporting symptoms three times per day, \u2062and researchers collected nose and throat swabs\u200b from them \u200ddaily, checking for the presence of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers\u200d also tested the \u2062inside of \u200dmasks worn by the participants, checked their\u200d hands,\u2063 and examined the air \u200band surfaces of\u2062 rooms that the subjects were kept in for a\u200d minimum of 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the researchers\u200c found that less than 10 percent\u200d of the viral emissions from\u2062 infected participants took place before the\u200b first symptoms emerged.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Very few emissions occurred before the first reported symptom (7%) and hardly any \u2064before the first \u2062positive lateral flow\u200d antigen test (2%),&#8221; the authors of the study \u200cwrote.<\/p>\n<p>The new study\u2014which takes the form \u200bof a\u2064 rigorous, controlled &#8220;challenge study&#8221; rather than the earlier modeling studies that relied \u2064on subjective inputs and assumptions\u2064 of\u200c researchers\u2014contradicts earlier \u2063research that set the tone for much of \u2064the prevailing narrative. That early research \u200cappears to\u2063 have inflated the perceived threat of presymptomatic spread.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 latest study, suggesting that silent \u2062transmission \u2063is \u2064far less significant, comes amid\u2064 a\u2062 growing drumbeat \u200cof\u200d alarm as COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are on the rise\u2014along with\u2062 calls in some circles\u2063 for renewed restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, many \u2062are calling\u200d for cool heads to prevail\u2014or are urging civil disobedience if\u200d lockdowns or other mandates are \u2062reimposed.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Artifactually Inflated&#8217;?<\/h2>\n<p>Some early studies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32296168\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one published<\/a> in August 2020 called &#8220;Temporal Dynamics In Viral Shedding and Transmissibility of COVID-19,&#8221; suggested that people who were\u200d presymptomatic or asymptomatic\u200b accounted for a large proportion of \u2064secondary infections.<\/p>\n<p>This particular study\u200c estimated that 44 \u2064percent of secondary cases were infected during the presymptomatic stage, while \u200dconcluding\u2064 that &#8220;disease\u200b control measures should be\u2062 adjusted to account for\u200b probably substantial presymptomatic transmission.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The authors \u2062of\u200c the study admitted that it<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>no symptoms can still spread the virus.
