Their interactive breakdown of the data \u200creveals that chronic absenteeism has increased in nearly every district in the\u2062 state.<\/p>\n<p>While the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, such as mask and vaccine mandates,\u2063 were considered, Mr. Dee&#8217;s analysis dismissed them as potential reasons for the spike in chronic\u2063 absenteeism. He believes \u200bthat other enduring factors are at play, such as transportation access, academic engagement,\u200c and declines in youth mental health. These factors may\u2062 vary from district to district based on demographics.<\/p>\n<p>Despite significant investments in \u2063state and federal aid to\u200c support academic recovery,\u200d Mr. \u2063Dee\u2064 emphasizes that the most\u2064 crucial\u2064 factor is keeping kids in school.\u2063 He states in the report, &#8220;The effectiveness of these investments relies in part on the\u2062 expectation that students\u2014particularly those that are most \u2063educationally vulnerable\u2014can access these supports through consistent school attendance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A school classroom in\u2062 Tustin, Calif., on March 10, 2021. The district\u2063 also acknowledges that poor mental \u2063health, housing and food insecurities, unmet transportation needs, and inflation contribute to some absences.<\/p>\n<p>San Diego Unified&#8217;s chronic absentee number nearly tripled to 33.7 \u200cpercent in 2022 from 12.4 percent in \u200d2019.\u2064 To \u200baddress this issue, \u200bthe district has \u200ccreated new positions dedicated to reaching out to families, conducting home\u200d visits, and providing\u200b support and resources to get students back in school.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Los Angeles Unified, the state&#8217;s largest district, faced a \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lockdown-generation-california-students-suffered-academically-during-pandemic-school-year\/\" title=\"Lockdown Generation: California Students Suffered Academically During Pandemic School Year\">chronic absenteeism rate<\/a> of 40 \u2062percent in the 2021\u201322 school \u200cyear.
