I was proud to sign HB 393 into law this year \u200dto\u200c require offenders to\u2062 pay \u200cchild support\u200d for \u2063the\u2063 children of their\u2062 victims.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The specific amount of child support\u200d has not been\u2062 predetermined in the \u200cbill.\u200d Instead, the court will determine the monthly payment based on the\u2064 financial \u2062needs of the\u2062 child and the surviving parent or guardian, as well as the financial resources of \u200bthe driver. Additionally, \u200bthe law mandates that all arrearages\u2062 must be paid, regardless of \u2064whether the \u200drestitution payments were scheduled to terminate during the defendant&#8217;s confinement.<\/p>\n<p>This significant legislation, \u200bknown as Bentley&#8217;s Law,\u2064 is \u200dnamed \u200bafter a Missouri woman who\u200c tragically lost her son, daughter-in-law, \u200band granddaughter to a drunk driver in 2021.
