State bar attorney Duncan Carling, who is leading the case, wrote in a court filing that the Georgia trial may take\u2063 years, given\u200b the \u200dscale of the 41-count, 19-defendant case, whereas the disbarment trial\u200d would resolve more\u200b quickly.<\/p>\n<p>His case \u2064began this January, when the\u200d State \u200bBar of California accused Mr. \u200cEastman of \u2062violating ethics rules in providing legal advice\u2063 and strategies to \u200bPresident Trump when he challenged the 2020 election results. He \u200dwas charged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/former-trump-lawyer-john-eastman-faces-disbarment-in-california-5015677\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11 counts<\/a> including &#8220;failure\u200b to support the Constitution.&#8221; It alleges he was &#8220;grossly negligent in not\u2062 knowing,&#8221; else \u2063falsely trying to convince Vice President Mike Pence he had the authority to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vp-pence-under-growing-pressure-from-gop-lawmakers-president-trump\/\" title=\"VP Pence under growing pressure from GOP lawmakers, President Trump\">reject electoral votes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Indicted\u200b Attorneys<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Eastman is one \u2062of \u200bseveral\u200d attorneys who were \u200dnamed\u200b in the Georgia indictment, which some of the other attorneys \u2064have called \u200cunconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yesterday I was\u200b indicted for being a lawyer!&#8221; Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and also a lawyer for President Trump when he pushed\u2062 for election \u200bintegrity investigations, said on his own podcast.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you for your prayers and support as \u200cwe \u200dfight criminalizing the practice\u2062 of law!&#8221; attorney Jenna Ellis <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JennaEllisEsq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted<\/a> \u2063on X, formerly Twitter, after she\u2064 was indicted.<\/p>\n<p>Attorneys Sidney Powell, Robert Cheeley, Ray Smith, and Kenneth Chesebro were also indicted.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph diDenova, former U.S. \u200battorney in Washington, D.C., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/joseph-digenova-trump-indictment\/2023\/09\/01\/id\/1132980\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> \u2062Newsmax the indictment was an assault on the &#8220;right to counsel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fani Willis has done the most objectionable thing you can do.\u200b She has attacked constitutional pillars in this indictment. And most assuredly, she has sought to destroy the importance of the attorney-client privilege\u2014the right to counsel,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just think\u2062 that what you&#8217;re seeing now is something that all of these people, ultimately, are going to live to regret,&#8221; Mr. diGenova \u2064said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve never seen\u200d anything like this in our country,\u200d and I pray to God we\u200d never see \u200cit again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Separate Cases<\/h2>\n<p>Two of the attorneys, Ms. Powell and Mr. Chesebro, have already filed to sever their cases from the rest and also separately filed \u200cdemands for a speedy trial. President \u200dTrump has also severed his cases from theirs, his attorney stating\u2064 that he would not be\u2063 seeking a speedy trial set \u200dto begin in as soon as two months.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Chesebro is the\u200d only\u2063 defendant with a trial date set, for\u200b Oct. 23, and Ms. Willis requested the court combine<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Eastman, a defendant in a racketeering indictment in Georgia, claims the case is mostly political.
