A true time \u200bcapsule.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Shipwreck hunters have discovered the intact remains of \u200da\u2063 schooner \u2062that sank in Lake Michigan in 1881 and is so well-preserved \u200dit still contains the crew&#8217;s long-ago possessions in its final resting spot miles \u2064from Wisconsin&#8217;s coastline.  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XSTPmIYqId\">https:\/\/t.co\/XSTPmIYqId<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The \u2063Associated \u200dPress (@AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AP\/status\/1697719844991324179?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 1, \u200c2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Trinidad had eight men on board who managed \u2062to escape in a lifeboat and reach\u2063 Algoma, Wisconsin, in May 1881. Sadly, the ship&#8217;s \u2062loyal dog perished in the sinking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the Wisconsin Historical Society, &#8220;The captain and the crew immediately escaped\u2063 in the ship&#8217;s yawl and after battling waves, the cold\u2063 crew made\u2062 it into Algoma (then Ahnapee). \u200cThe only loss aboard the TRINIDAD was the ship&#8217;s mascot, a large Newfoundland dog who was asleep next to the stove when the ship began \u2064to sink.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Baillod and Jaeck relied on the \u2064account written \u2062by John Higgins, the ship&#8217;s captain, to guide their search\u2063 for the wreck.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;The wreck is one of the best-preserved shipwrecks in Wisconsin waters, with its deckhouse still intact, containing the crew&#8217;s possessions and its anchors and deck gear still present,&#8221; stated \u200ba press release about the ship&#8217;s discovery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With the assistance of the Wisconsin Historical Society, an underwater craft\u2063 was chartered to survey the wreckage of the Trinidad\u200d and confirm its location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1693504018745000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1RMMjCvCBOBYdpkw5O_njE\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE\u200c DAILYWIRE+ \u200cAPP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally constructed in 1867, the Trinidad played a vital role in the grain\u200d trade between the upper Midwest, Pennsylvania, and New York. Sadly, the 140-foot long schooner met \u2062its\u2064 demise when \u200cit sprung a leak while passing through the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal in Door County, Wisconsin, carrying \u200ba load of coal.
