Trump was a close second \u200bwith 35.4 percent.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2063 and \u200bTrump \u200bcame in \u200cmiles ahead of the other candidates, with Vivek Ramaswamy receiving 9.1 percent, Nikki Haley \u200breceiving 7.5 percent, and Tim Scott receiving 5.5 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Despite exceeding expectations at last week\u2019s debate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-pence-signals-debate-plan-attack-trump-desantis-not-pushing-national-abortion-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Pence<\/a> did not manage to crack the top five.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Straw Poll Results Are In! This is not a scientific poll, it is just \u2062a straw poll conducted at\u200b a convention, so nobody should be putting too much\u200c stock into this result.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the results of this poll are\u200c still rather interesting,\u2064 and Trump would be wise to take note of what \u200chas changed since he last won the\u2064 general election.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has historically done well with younger voters, much \u2063better than most other Republican candidates tend\u2062 to\u200c do. Younger people were instrumental in his 2016 election victory.<\/p>\n<p>This\u200c was largely due to the fact that when he first entered politics, Trump offered\u200d an energetic and exciting alternative \u2064to what many saw as the stuffy,\u2063 out-of-touch Republican establishment.<\/p>\n<p>But things have undoubtedly changed since then, and Trump is not quite the fresh and exciting outsider he \u200cused to be.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is nearly 80 years old and is coming\u200d into the 2024 race bearing the weight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-indictment-pattern-continues-fourth-handed-hours-damning-hunter-biden-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four different\u2064 legal cases<\/a> against him and having\u2064 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newt-gingrich-says-trump-is-a-leader-of-a-movement-not-just-a-candidate\/\" title=\"Gingrich: Trump is more than a candidate, he's a movement leader.\">withstand relentless attacks<\/a> by\u200c the left.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible that young voters may not be as enthralled with Trump as they used to be because of these developments,\u200b and so they are looking for a younger, fresher alternative.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth noting that should the \u20642024 general election boil down to\u2064 Trump and Biden again, no\u2064 matter who wins, America would be ushering in its oldest\u2062 president \u2062in history.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-ron-desantis-can-fix-americas-economic-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">effective policies in Florida<\/a> \u2014 and relative youth \u2014 might just persuade some of these younger voters his\u200d way.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is going to need \u200bthese younger voters to win the\u200c election.
