In telling my\u2063 patients what medicines they can and cannot have access\u200b to, we effectively have a large group of pharmacists practicing medicine without a license,&#8221; said Dr. Bowden. &#8220;They have no accountability\u2063 for this yet they are allowed to dictate\u2063 patient care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I see it every single day. Enough is enough,&#8221; Dr. Bowden\u200b added.<\/p>\n<p>Ivermectin,\u2062 a medication that has been in use for\u200b decades, became a topic\u200b of controversy in 2020 due to divided medical opinions on its effectiveness against \u200dCOVID. As a\u2062 result, \u2064many pharmacists refused to fill prescriptions for the drug.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the\u200c issue reached the courtroom, where a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-lawyer-bruce-castor-impeachment-managers-presented-nothing-new\/\" title=\"Trump Lawyer Bruce Castor: Impeachment Managers Presented Nothing New\">lawyer representing<\/a> the FDA confirmed that doctors were\u2063 indeed \u2064free to\u200d prescribe ivermectin for COVID treatment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;FDA explicitly recognizes that doctors do have the authority to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID,&#8221; stated Ashley Cheung Honold, a Department of Justice lawyer representing the FDA,\u2063 during the U.S. Court of\u200c Appeals for the 5th Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d FDA, \u2062however,\u200c continued to\u2064 discourage the use of ivermectin for COVID \u200btreatment,\u200c stating on social media, &#8220;You\u2063 are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y&#8217;all. Stop it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a subsequent clarification, the FDA affirmed that while it had approved ivermectin for certain uses in humans and animals, it had not issued any statement regarding its\u200c safety or effectiveness for treating \u200bCOVID. Nevertheless, the agency\u200c emphasized that \u200bindividual doctors have \u200bthe discretion to prescribe the medication \u200dfor \u2063COVID treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Although the National \u2062Institutes of Health COVID-19 treatment guidelines advise against \u200cusing ivermectin for COVID, citing a lack of evidence, other studies have\u200d found \u2064it to be effective.<\/p>\n<p>Dr.\u200b Bowden, one of the plaintiffs in the case, \u200bhad hoped that the FDA&#8217;s acknowledgment would put an end\u2063 to objections at the pharmacist counter. However, just this\u200d week, another one of her patients was denied service.
