This decision comes in the same week that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-had-better-pass-federal-pro-life-laws-if-they-ever-want-to-be-elected-again\/\" title=\"Republicans Had Better Pass Federal Pro-Life Laws If They Ever Want To Be Elected Again\">peaceful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/americans-remember-the-48th-annual-march-for-life\/\" title=\"Americans remember the 48th annual March for Life\">pro-life activists<\/a><\/a>, who protested at\u2062 Santangelo&#8217;s abortion facility, were found guilty in federal court and now face imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Daily Signal, the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department stated that they are <em>not<\/em> actively\u200b investigating Santangelo, despite accusations made by pro-life activists. The\u200b Federalist also reached out to the Federal Bureau of Investigation\u200c for comment, but they declined to answer.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The accusations stem from pro-life \u200bactivists Lauren Handy \u2062and Terrisa Bukovinac, who obtained a box of five preemie-sized babies outside Santangelo&#8217;s practice, the Washington Surgi-Clinic, in March\u200c 2022. The babies, known as &#8220;The Five,&#8221; were the result\u2062 of gruesome abortions performed by Santangelo.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, five\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-disinformation-police-are-even-more-incompetent-and-dishonest-than-you-imagine\/\" title=\"The Disinformation Police are incredibly inept and deceitful.\">pro-life \u2064activists<\/a>, including \u2064Handy, were found guilty of violating the \u2062Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for their participation in a peaceful protest at the Washington Surgi-Clinic in October 2020. \u2062They now face up to 11 years in federal prison, supervised release, and \u200bhefty fines.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers from the Thomas More Society, representing Handy and the other activists, argue that the protest was nonviolent and involved activities\u2062 such as prayer, distributing pro-life literature, and offering counseling to \u200cwomen considering\u2063 abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the Metropolitan\u200b Police Department indicated that they were investigating \u200bSantangelo and his clinic in relation to the discovery\u200b of the aborted babies\u200b and the allegations of illegal procedures. However, they \u200blater clarified\u2064 that the investigation only \u200dpertains to \u2063the circumstances \u200csurrounding the\u2064 discovery of the\u2063 fetuses, not the medical provider.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;For clarification, the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery\u200b of\u200d five fetuses in a residence,&#8221; said\u200b Public Information Officer Hugh\u200c Carew. \u200d&#8221;At\u200c this \u2062time, \u2063there is no investigation into the medical provider.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These statements suggest that Handy and Bukovinac are the\u2063 ones under scrutiny by\u2064 local authorities, rather than the abortionist. Washington \u200cD.C. \u200cMayor Muriel Bowser has also accused \u200cHandy of tampering with fetal remains.<\/p>\n<p>Over a year later, it remains unknown whether autopsies were performed on\u200d the bodies of the five babies. The district medical examiner&#8217;s office, as well as the mayor&#8217;s office, have refused to provide any answers.<\/p>\n<p>Bukovinac is the founder and Handy is a member of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), a pro-life organization with left-wing views on other issues. PAAU has previously been targeted \u200dby the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>In May, FBI agents visited the\u2062 mother of PAAU activist Elise Ketch without providing a reason for their inquiry. Bukovinac believes that the FBI\u2064 is\u200c targeting PAAU members because their activism challenges the abortion industry.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas \u2063More Society senior counsel Martin Cannon intends to appeal the court&#8217;s decision, stating that they \u2064will continue to defend those who fight for life \u2062against a Department of Justice that \u2062seems determined to prosecute those who oppose abortion.<\/p>\n<p>PAAU responded to the guilty verdicts on Instagram, stating, &#8220;This case was an effort by the US government to isolate and intimidate Rescuers and anti-abortion people into believing they will face significant jail time for living in alignment with their\u200c pro-life values.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>confirmed that an abortionist accused of illegal partial-birth abortions will not face criminal investigation, while peaceful pro-life protesters were found guilty and may be imprisoned.
