considering there is no evidence in that case\u200b to indicate \u200cthat \u200cthe FBI\u200c fired then-agent Peter Strzok\u2063 at Trump&#8217;s direction, even if Trump wanted his\u2062 removal. \u200bThe ruling on Friday adds on top of \u200cvarious other\u200d cases where the former president is set to be deposed.<\/p>\n<h3>Panel Rejects\u2062 DOJ&#8217;s Attempt to\u200b Block Deposition<\/h3>\n<p>But a three-judge panel on\u200b the U.S. Court of Appeals for the\u2064 District of Columbia\u200d ruled Friday that \u2064government petitioners had not shown &#8220;they are entitled to the extraordinary\u200c remedy&#8221; they sought to block the former president&#8217;s deposition over\u2064 the matter.\u200d The ruling was \u2062split 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>DOJ attorneys\u2064 argued \u2064that a July\u200b 6 district court ruling that also \u2062rejected the effort \u200cto block\u200d Trump&#8217;s deposition marked a &#8220;clear abuse of discretion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The panel&#8217;s decision\u2062 on Friday stated \u2062that \u2064before authorizing the deposition, &#8220;the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/peter-strzok-can-depose-trump-in-lawsuit-over-his-fbi-firing-judge\/\" title=\"Judge rules Peter Strzok can question Trump in FBI firing lawsuit.\">district court held multiple hearings<\/a> on the relevant issues, considered \u2063several rounds \u2064of additional briefing, and required respondents to exhaust \u2063other means of obtaining the information they sought.&#8221; The judges \u2062added that the district court limited the deposition to \u200ctwo hours, and \u2063to a\u2064 &#8220;narrow set \u200dof topics \u200didentified.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Under these circumstances, petitioners have not shown \u2062that the district court\u2019s \u2063conclusion was a clear\u200d abuse of discretion warranting mandamus relief,&#8221;\u2062 the panel added.<\/p>\n<h3>Lawsuit Filed by Former \u200bFBI Agents<\/h3>\n<p>The lawsuit\u200b was filed by former \u2064FBI agents Strzok\u200b and Lisa Page in 2019 after they were fired from their positions while working on the investigation into alleged ties between\u200d Trump&#8217;s\u2064 2016\u200c presidential campaign and Russia.\u200b Text\u200c messages \u200dfrom the two while they were working on\u2063 the investigation showed them espousing anti-Trump\u2064 sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>Strzok argued he was terminated for political\u200b reasons and \u200bis seeking to\u2063 be reinstated at the bureau \u2063and be awarded\u2062 damages. Page\u2062 is claiming her privacy rights were violated with the text \u200dmessages being revealed while also\u200c seeking \u2064damages.<\/p>\n<p>The messages between the two former agents also revealed they were \u200dinvolved \u2062in an affair\u2064 together.\u2062 During his time in office, Trump tweeted on several occasions \u200dabout Strzok, calling him a \u2063&#8221;sick \u2062loser,\u201d \u201cincompetent,\u201d and \u201ccorrupt\u201d and celebrating his termination from the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>The case between the DOJ\u2062 and the agents \u200cmarked a rare occurrence in \u200dwhich the \u2064federal government was seeking to help the former\u2064 president, in this case to avoid a deposition, as he is currently facing two federal criminal cases \u2064brought by the\u2064 agency over his alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election and \u2064retain classified materials.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 6, Trump is slated to be deposed in his $500 million case\u2063 against his former attorney\u2064 Michael Cohen, in which Trump alleges\u200c Cohen&#8217;s breaches of\u200d contract caused him reputational\u2064 harm.<\/p>\n<p>And in a\u200d case likely headed for trial in early\u2064 October, Trump was deposed for seven hours with New York Attorney General Letitia James&#8217;s office in \u2062April\u200c as part \u2063of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-nominee-jessica-clarke-muffs-john-kennedys-basic-question-during-hearing-you-want-to-take-another-crack-at-that\/\" title=\"Biden Nominee Jessica Clarke Muffs John Kennedy\u2019s \u2018Basic\u2019 Question During Hearing: \u2018You Want To Take Another Crack At That?\u2019\">civil fraud case<\/a> against him and the Trump Organization.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Examiner contacted\u200d the\u200d DOJ for a\u200d response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Donald Trump must give a deposition in a civil suit filed by former FBI agents terminated during his presidency.
