Sachsenhausen concentration camp between 1943 and\u2062 1945, prosecutors said Friday.<br \/>The German citizen, a\u2062 resident of Main-Kinzig \u200bcounty near \u2062Frankfurt, is accused of having\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e70BZe8Eoj\">pic.twitter.com\/e70BZe8Eoj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Jewish Voice \u200d(@JewishVoice) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JewishVoice\/status\/1697635927982477534?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 1,\u200c 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The man is being charged with more than \u200b3,300 counts of being an accessory to murder between July 1943 and February 1945. \u2062The \u2062indictment \u2063was filed at the state\u2062 court in Hanau, which will now have to decide \u200cwhether to send the case to trial. <\/p>\n<p>State prosecutors said that if\u200d and when the case came to trial, it would\u2063 be in a juvenile court due to his age at the time of the acts in which he is accused of \u2063participating. <\/p>\n<p>Thomas Hauburger, Gie\u00dfen\u2019s chief prosecutor, spoke to the German media about the former guard. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe man, \u200da \u200dGerman citizen, who at the time of the crimes was\u200d an\u2062 adolescent, is accused of having aided the cruel and perfidious killing of thousands of prisoners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hauburger also stated that the\u200c 98-year-old had been evaluated by psychiatric \u2063experts\u200c for his ability to stand trial\u2063 and had been\u2064 deemed to be \u201cfit to face \u200dtrial, \u200cwith restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hans-J\u00fcrgen Foster, a lawyer and former federal \u200dpublic prosecutor at the federal court\u200c of justice, said he hoped a trial would bring to light the role of those who were not directly involved in the killings but whose role as cogs in the \u200cNazi killing machine enabled the Holocaust\u2062 to succeed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI believe prison guards\u2063 like him were\u2063 a specific aspect of the conditions which were hostile to life, that prevailed \u2062throughout the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/98-year-old-ex-concentration-camp-guard-charged-with-murder\/\" title=\"98-Year-Old Former Concentration Camp Guard Accused of Murder\">entire concentration camp complex<\/a>,\u201d the\u200c lawyer\u200d said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>German prosecutors have launched many cases under a recent precedent that allows those who assisted a \u200dNazi\u2064 camp\u2019s operation to\u2064 be punished as an accessory to the killings committed there without direct evidence of participation in a specific \u200bkilling.<\/p>\n<p>Under\u200c German law, charges \u2062of murder and \u200cbeing an accessory to murder do not have a statute of limitations.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, more than 200,000 people were held\u200b at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp between 1936\u200b and \u200b1945.\u2064 An estimate of 100,000 of the victims died of various causes, including diseases, starvation, medical experiments, forced labor and systematic SS extermination operations including\u2062 shootings, hangings and gassing.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
