It legitimizes reparations. \u200cAnd it\u2064 provokes alleged educators to believe any symbol \u2062that originated before last week was a byproduct of \u200dslavery and \u2063systemic\u200c racism,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In an Op-Ed about the incident in the\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/08\/30\/attacking-dont-tread-on-me-is-latest-dunderhead-progressive-assault-on-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, James Bovard said the flag, a revered symbol of \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/colorado-student-suspended-gadsden-flag-patch-breaks-silence-issues-challenge-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a> to\u200b tyranny, became \u201ctainted\u201d after it\u2063 was visible in protests against the Obama administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200dreal objection by officialdom is \u200dto the flag\u2019s \u2064message: \u2018Don\u2019t Tread on \u2062Me,\u2019\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Bovard said the flag is\u200c a symbol of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/won-student-booted-class-dont-tread-flag-scores-quick-victory-administrators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">freedom<\/a>, not violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPermitting Wokesters to turn the\u200c Gadsden flag\u200b into the moral equivalent of the Nazi swastika will only encourage more \u2062demolitions of\u2062 American\u2064 heritage.
