This week, she\u2062 appeared\u200d before the Helsinki Court\u200b of Appeal to defend\u200c her Christian views\u200b on marriage and sexuality.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEveryone should be able \u2062to \u2064share \u2064their beliefs without fearing censorship by\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-canvassers-rescind-their-votes-to-certify-wayne-county-michigan-results\/\" title=\"Republican Canvassers Rescind Their Votes to Certify Wayne County, Michigan, Results\">state authorities<\/a>. I know that the \u2062prosecution is trying to make\u2064 an\u2064 example of me to scare\u2064 others into silence. Yet, you do\u2062 not have to align with \u2062my\u200b views\u2064 to agree that everyone should be able to\u200b speak freely. With God\u2019s help, I will remain\u200b steadfast and continue defending everyone\u2019s human right to free speech,\u201d R\u00e4s\u00e4nen said on the first day of \u2063her new\u2062 trial.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>R\u00e4s\u00e4nen was previously acquitted by the \u200cDistrict \u2064Court of Helsinki for the\u200b same\u200c charges \u200cback in March 2022. However,\u200d she now finds herself\u200b back in court, facing accusations of &#8220;hate speech&#8221; violations for a 2019 tweet that included Bible verses \u2062and a pamphlet she wrote on marriage in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Juhana Pohjola is also being prosecuted for publishing the same pamphlet, under \u2064charges related to &#8220;war crimes and crimes against humanity&#8221; in the \u2063Finnish criminal code.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors argue that they\u2062 can limit freedom of expression in \u2063the outward \u200bexpression of\u2063 religion. They claim that R\u00e4s\u00e4nen&#8217;s\u200b interpretation of the Bible verses in her tweet\u2063 is what \u2063makes it criminal.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Coleman, the executive director of \u200dADF International and a\u200d member of R\u00e4s\u00e4nen\u2019s legal \u200cteam, warns that Finland\u2019s\u2062 hate speech\u200d laws pose a danger to democratic societies. \u2064He\u2064 believes that\u200c criminalizing speech through so-called &#8220;hate-speech&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/finnish-politician-back-in-court-for-criminal-interpretation-of-bible-verses\/\" title=\"Finnish politician faces court for misinterpreting Bible verses.\">laws stifles important public debates<\/a> and endangers democracy.<\/p>\n<p>The case has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/87-year-old-woman-fights-off-armed-intruder-then-feeds-him\/\" title=\"87-Year-Old Woman Defeats Intruder, Offers Meal\">gained international\u200c attention<\/a>,\u200b with Republicans urging State Department officials to support R\u00e4s\u00e4nen.
