\u200cexposing individuals\u200d to substances they did not intend \u200bto \u200duse, warned the \u2062CDC.<\/p>\n<p>The report revealed that there were \u2064over 54,000 \u2064overdose deaths linked to counterfeit drugs, which\u200b are \u2062designed \u2064to resemble\u2062 genuine\u2064 pharmaceutical \u200bpills. It noted that \u200bthese counterfeit drugs were less \u200bprevalent in\u2064 western states due \u2062to the dominance of black tar heroin,\u200b which makes\u2064 it difficult to\u200c mix with fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The highest percentages of deaths with evidence of counterfeit oxycodone \u200duse (both alone and with counterfeit alprazolam) were in western jurisdictions, whereas nearly half of \u200cdeaths with evidence of \u200dcounterfeit alprazolam use only were in southern jurisdictions,&#8221; the report stated. &#8220;This finding suggests that exposure to different types of counterfeit pills and\u2062 drugs might\u2063 vary by\u2063 region.
