It also restricts the use of public funds\u200b for transgender procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed\u200c the transgender procedure for \u2064minors ban in June, putting the measure on track to enter into force on Sept. 1,\u200b but \u200bthe groups sued to\u200b block it.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 case was filed on July 12 (pdf) on behalf of five Texas families with transgender children or adolescents, who accused the State of Texas and others of\u200c blocking &#8220;access to safe, effective,\u200c and \u2062medically necessary treatment&#8221; for children suffering from gender dysphoria and preventing them from living \u200d&#8221;as their true selves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The groups claimed the ban violates the right to parental autonomy guaranteed by the Due Course of Law \u2063Clause of the Texas Constitution, \u2064discriminates \u2064against parents in the exercise of their right to make medical decisions for their children, and infringes on Texas physicians&#8217; right of occupational freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The case was filed at the District Court of Travis County, Texas, which held an evidentiary hearing in mid-August before issuing a temporary injunction on Aug.\u2064 25 (pdf)\u200d on grounds that it&#8217;s unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Judges wrote in \u2064the injunction that the transgender procedure ban likely violates Article I, Section 19 of the Texas Constitution\u200b &#8220;by infringing upon the fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning\u200d the care, custody, and control of their children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They also said in the injunction that \u200bSB 14 violates other\u2063 sections of\u2064 the Texas Constitution by infringing \u2063on\u200c Texas \u2063physicians&#8217; right to occupational freedom and by discriminating against transgender adolescents with gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Mutilative&#8217; Gender Transition Procedures<\/h2>\n<p>Texas state authorities immediately appealed the injunction by filing a notice of accelerated\u2062 interlocutory appeal (pdf),\u2064 with \u200dthe \u2064Texas Attorney General&#8217;s office arguing \u200dthat SB 14\u200c prevented harmful procedures and protected children.<\/p>\n<p>Calling \u200cSB 14 \u2063&#8221;a law that prohibits hospitals from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-missouri-judges-issue-contrasting-rulings-on-transgender-treatments-for-minors\/\" title=\"Texas and Missouri judges have issued conflicting rulings on transgender treatments for minors.\">administering experimental hormones<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-supreme-court-orders-child-sex-change-ban-to-enter-into-force\/\" title=\"Texas Supreme Court mandates implementation of child sex change ban.\">conducting mutilative &#8216;gender transition&#8217; surgical procedures<\/a> on minors,&#8221; the Texas AG&#8217;s office \u200bsaid in a statement that these &#8220;unproven medical interventions \u200dare emphatically pushed by some activists in\u2063 the medical and psychiatric professions despite the lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-supreme-court-rules-law-banning-gender-procedures-on-minors-can-take-effect\/\" title=\"Texas Supreme Court allows law banning gender procedures on minors to be enforced.\">evidence demonstrating medical benefit<\/a>, and even while growing evidence indicates harmful effects on children\u2019s mental and physical welfare.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And on Thursday, the Texas Supreme Court sided with \u200dthe AG&#8217;s office, \u200callowing the transgender procedure ban for minors to go \u2064into effect \u2062on Sept. 1, as planned.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives praised the decision, with Jonathan Covey, policy director of Texas \u200dValues, a\u2063 conservative group that supported the law, saying in a statement obtained by The Epoch Times that &#8220;Texas kids are safer today&#8221; because of the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProtecting children from harmful and dangerous gender transition surgeries\u200d and puberty blockers \u2063is in the best interests\u200b of the\u200b child and something we all agree on,\u201d \u2064Mr. Covey said.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, the legal advocates who brought the lawsuit seeking \u2064to block SB\u2062 14 issued a joint statement denouncing the high\u2064 court&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s cruel ruling \u2064places Texas\u2019 transgender youth, and the\u200c families and medical professionals who love and care for them, directly in harm\u2019s\u200b way,&#8221; the\u200d groups wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The district court heard two days of testimony, \u2062weighed the\u2064 evidence, and made a reasoned and thoughtful\u200b determination that the \u2063ban\u200b likely violated the Texas Constitution, and thus should be delayed while the full case plays out in court,&#8221;
