Jamie \u200dRaskin (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, is\u200c pressuring the Republican committee majority to take steps to investigate President Donald Trump&#8217;s son-in-law Jared Kushner over his foreign \u200dbusiness activities.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday,\u2063 Mr. Raskin sent \u200da letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.oversight.house.gov\/files\/2023-08-31.JBR%20to%20Comer%20re%20Kushner%20Subpoena.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), requesting that he approve a subpoena to compel Mr. \u2064Kushner to \u2064provide records of his communications with members of the government of Saudi Arabia, as well as records of Saudi \u2064public investment in his business firm, A Fin Management LLC (also known as Affinity).<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kushner formed Affinity in 2021 after President Trump&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-seeks-more-donations-by-offering-free-trip-to-his-1st-post-presidency-rally\/\" title=\"Trump Seeks More Donations by Offering Free Trip to His 1st Post-Presidency Rally\">presidential term ended<\/a>. In a June 2022 letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.oversight.house.gov\/files\/2022-06-02.CBM%20to%20Kushner-A%20Fin%20Management%20LLC%20re%20Saudi%20Arabia%20Conflicts.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>), then-Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) specifically asked for documents pertaining to PIF&#8217;s investment in Affinity. Ms. Maloney also asked Mr. Kushner for all records of any\u200b communications he had with the Saudi Crown Prince\u2063 pertaining to\u200d his or his family&#8217;s business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>In her 2022 letter, Ms. Maloney\u2063 repeatedly \u2062referenced close relations between \u2063Mr. Kushner and the Saudi \u200dgovernment and royal family throughout the \u200dTrump administration, when he \u200cserved as an advisor to his father-in-law. She noted\u2063 a 2017 $110 billion arms deal Mr. Kushner reportedly helped arrange between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, and 2019 Congressional reports alleging he\u200b advocated for the U.S. to share \u200cnuclear technology \u200cwith Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While you were shaping U.S.\u2064 policy\u2064 toward Saudi Arabia, your brother Joshua Kushner\u2019s venture capital firm, Thrive Capital \u2064Management (Thrive), was engaging in business with Saudi officials, including the managing director of PIF,&#8221; Ms. Maloney&#8217;s 2022 letter states. &#8220;Prior to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/epa-stands-by-decision-to-allow-biden-appointee-to-retain-ties-chinese-government-controlled-university\/\" title=\"EPA Stands By Decision To Allow Biden Appointee To Retain Ties Chinese Government-Controlled University\">entering government service<\/a>, you were closely involved with Thrive, \u2062receiving millions from the fund and sitting on the \u2063fund\u2019s board and \u2062investment committees until January 2017. Raskin calls for probe into Jared Kushner's overseas business activities.\">political relationships \u2064led government ethics experts<\/a> to question \u2063your impartiality in dealing with\u2063 Saudi Arabia and whether you were playing a &#8216;shell game&#8217; with your assets by selling them to your brother.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Maloney further alleged that\u2064 a presentation to\u200c pitch Affinity to investors &#8220;suggests that its business model \u2062is focused\u200b on trading on the \u2062relationships you built\u2062 while working for your \u200cfather-in-law in the White House.&#8221; She said the presentation made references to Middle East peace projects like the Abraham Accords,\u2063 as well as \u2064the OPEC+ 2020 Production Cut\u2014&#8221;All foreign policy matters that you either &#8216;led,&#8217;\u200d &#8216;oversaw,&#8217;\u2064 or were &#8216;instrumental&#8217; in facilitating.<\/p>\n<h2>Dueling Investigations<\/h2>\n<p>The Democrat requests to collect Mr. Kushner&#8217;s business records come as Republican \u2063lawmakers have been \u200bpursuing records of President Joe Biden&#8217;s \u2063interactions with \u200dhis own family&#8217;s various business dealings, including interactions with \u2062his son Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Committee Republicans cannot\u00a0claim to be &#8216;investigating foreign nationals\u2019 attempts to target and coerce high-ranking U.S. officials\u2019 family members by providing money \u2063or other benefits in exchange\u2064 for certain actions&#8217; \u200bwithout examining the former \u200dAdministration\u2019s plethora of foreign financial entanglements,&#8221; reads \u2064a Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/ranking-member-raskin-urges-chairman-comer-to-subpoena-kushner-s-investment-firm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press statement<\/a> from the House Oversight Committee Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter to Mr. Comer, \u2063Mr. Raskin wrote that he was encouraged\u200d by a recent \u2062comment the\u200d Republican chairman made that &#8220;what \u200dKushner did crossed the line.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
