(Photo by ED JONES\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/james-meyers\">James Meyers<\/a><br \/>3:41 PM \u2013 Thursday, August 31, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>A nearly 200-year-old West Point time capsule that was unlocked\u2062 this week appeared at first to only contain dust \u200bduring the live-streamed ceremony,\u200b however, it actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/centuries-old-west-point-time-capsule-reveal-historic-coins\/\" title=\"Ancient West Point Time Capsule Unveils Historic Coins\">contained hidden treasures<\/a> that were eventually uncovered, \u200baccording to the U.S. Military \u2064Academy. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The contents revealed six silver American coins dating \u2064from 1795 to 1828 and a commemorative medal, the military academy said in \u2064a \u200cpress release. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the coins included a 1795\u200d five-cent\u2062 coin, an 1800 Liberty dollar, an 1818 25-cent coin, one-cent\u00a0 and 10-cent\u2063 coins\u2062 from 1827, an \u20631828 50-cent coin and an Erie Canal commemorative medal from 1826. <\/p>\n<p>According to experts, the long-lost\u200d coins are \u2064valued between a few-hundred dollars to over $1,000,\u200b depending on the condition. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWhen I first found these, I thought, man you know, it would have been great to have found these on stage,\u201d West Point archeologist Paul Hudson told the Associated Press on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cBefore long, lo and behold, there\u2019s the edge of a\u200b coin sticking out,\u201d he recounted by phone, \u201cand I thought, well that\u2019s OK. That\u2019s something,\u2063 that\u2019s a start.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One theory is that the box was left at the\u2062 bottom of a monument by cadets back in 1828. The original monument was \u200derected to honor a hero of the Revolutionary War, Thaddeus Kosciuszko. <\/p>\n<p>The historical preservation and analysis of the\u2063 time capsule will reportedly continue to be \u200cexplored further. <\/p>\n<p>More \u200dresearch will be done regarding the time capsule\u2019s historical preservation and\u2064 study.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s more that we can learn from this,\u201d Hudson said, \u201cto learn about the academy\u2019s\u2063 history and about the country\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
