Monahan explained that occasional lightheadedness is common during concussion recovery and can also be caused by dehydration.<\/p>\n<p>In March, McConnell suffered a concussion and rib fracture after\u2063 a fall in a D.C. hotel. It took him nearly six weeks to recover and return to the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>According to a McConnell aide, the senator also\u2064 experienced lightheadedness in July, which resulted in difficulty speaking to reporters. This is medically referred to as an episode of \u200baphasia.<\/p>\n<h3>Psychiatric Implications<\/h3>\n<p>Forensic psychiatrist Carole Lieberman \u200cexpressed her belief that Monahan&#8217;s diagnosis is an attempt to downplay the seriousness of McConnell&#8217;s condition. While the symptoms usually last for a few minutes to 24 hours, they can result in permanent deficits and be classified as a stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Lieberman finds the psychiatric implications of McConnell&#8217;s recent\u2062 attack particularly interesting.
