This finding\u200d supports the hypothesis that marijuana, known for its ability to scavenge metals, is a \u2062source of cadmium \u2064and lead exposure.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our results therefore indicate marijuana is a source of cadmium and lead exposure,&#8221; said Katelyn McGraw, a postdoctoral\u2063 researcher at Columbia Public \u200cHealth&#8217;s Department of Environmental Health \u2062Sciences.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Study Details \u200dand Findings<\/h3>\n<p>The \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cannabis-users-have-higher-levels-of-toxic-heavy-metals-in-their-bodies-study\/\" title=\"Study finds cannabis users have elevated levels of toxic heavy metals in their bodies.\">researchers analyzed data \u2062collected<\/a> from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2005 \u2062and 2018.\u2062 The study included 7,254 adult participants and measured the \u2062levels of five metals in\u200b their\u2064 blood and 16 \u200cmetals in their urine.<\/p>\n<p>The participants were divided into four\u200b groups: non-marijuana\/non-tobacco users,\u2063 exclusive marijuana \u2064users, exclusive\u200b tobacco users, and \u200bdual \u200dmarijuana\/tobacco users.\u2064 Among the \u2062exclusive marijuana users, the study found a \u200d27%\u200c increase \u200din lead levels and a 22% increase in cadmium levels compared to non-users.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Both\u2064 cadmium and lead stay in your\u200d body for quite \u200ca\u200d long time,&#8221; explained Tiffany Sanchez, \u200clead \u2064author of the study. &#8220;When you&#8217;re looking at urinary cadmium, that&#8217;s a reflection \u2064of\u200d total body burden, how much\u2063 you have \u2063taken in over a long period of chronic exposure.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>The \u200cDangers of Cadmium\u200c and \u2064Lead<\/h3>\n<p>Cadmium, a naturally\u200c occurring element\u2063 found in\u200d various products, including batteries and plastics, can cause stomach issues and lung damage when\u2062 consumed or inhaled at high levels. It is also considered a cancer-causing\u2064 agent.
