Frisco Woods, on the \u200bOuter Banks, still is recording sustained winds of\u2063 50 mph and gusts up to 64 mph, the NHC advises.<\/p>\n<p>A moderate risk of flash\u200b flooding still persists on North Carolina\u2019s eastern points from New Bern, through Marsh Island, and up to Elizabeth City.<\/p>\n<p>A slight risk of flooding remains for the North Carolina cities of Jacksonville and Greenville, and extends north to Virginia Beach, Va.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical Storm\u200c Idalia is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/live-update-the-day-after-hurricane-idalia\/\" title=\"Hurricane Idalia aftermath: Live updates\">recording maximum sustained winds<\/a> of 60 mph, and is moving east at 20 mph. It is expected \u2064to downgrade to a post-tropical\u200c storm later today.<\/p>\n<p>The storm is expected \u2063to strengthen again \u2062over the warm Atlantic water and return\u200c to tropical storm status this weekend.<\/p>\n<h2>10 AM: Hundreds of Thousands in Idalia&#8217;s Path Still Without Power<\/h2>\n<p>As \u200dIdalia made her\u200b way off the \u200cEast Coast on Thursday \u2063morning, more than 140,000 Floridians were \u2062still waiting for their power to be restored.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Power &#038; \u2063Light Company (FPL), the \u200bstate\u2019s largest utility, \u2064advised that it had \u201cessentially completed\u201d the restoration of power to its Southwest Florida customers and was\u200b working to do the same in North Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to work\u200c day and night to restore power safely and as quickly as possible to our customers affected by Hurricane Idalia\u2019s destructive path across Florida,\u201d FPL President and\u200c CEO Armando Pimentel said in a written statement. \u201cAs power and a sense of\u200b normalcy are restored, we remind everyone to stay alert and safe and to avoid any \u200chazardous\u200c conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/white-house-holds-briefing-after-hurricane-idalia-hit-florida-and-georgia-5484125\" alt=\"Utility truck traveling on Interstate 75 near\u2064 Ocala, Fla.\" style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\"><figcaption>A utility truck, part of a convoy staging in advance to help restore anticipated power outages after Hurricane Idalia, travels\u2064 south on Interstate 75 near Ocala, Fla., on Aug. 29, 2023. However, in a post\u2062 on X, formerly known as Twitter, Georgia Power assured residents that its teams \u2064were working to evaluate the damage and restore power \u201cas quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the Carolinas, power outages were less widespread, affecting more than 14,000 in South Carolina and more than 21,000 \u2064in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<h2>9:35 PM: FEMA Administrator Visits Florida<\/h2>\n<p>Deanne Criswell, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),\u2062 was with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee Thursday morning to inspect the damage to the\u200b state\u2013particularly \u200din Taylor County and\u200b other counties directly in Hurricane Idalia\u2019s path.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have received the governor&#8217;s request for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-issues-disaster-declaration-for-texas-amidst-severe-winter-weather\/\" title=\"Biden Issues Disaster Declaration For Texas Amidst Severe Winter Weather\">major disaster declaration<\/a>, and\u200c that is in process right now,\u201d Ms.\u2064 Criswell said.\u200c And as President \u2062Biden has \u200bstated \u2064in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pres-trump-hopes-to-pay-his-respects-to-fmr-japan-pm\/\" title=\"Pres. (Madalina \u2064Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr.\u2062 DeSantis\u2063 said the \u200dstate requested a major disaster \u2063declaration from the federal government for \u201call 25 counties that fell under the hurricane warning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy\u200b I&#8217;m here today is to join the governor and \u200bsee firsthand the \u200cimpacts that the communities have had,\u00a0 so we\u2063 can determine what level of assistance\u2063 and what other programs we will need \u200bto bring in to help support those people that\u200b were in the storm&#8217;s path, help them on their road to\u2062 recovery,&#8221; Ms. Criswell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working very closely with FEMA to \u200bestablish recovery resources,\u201d said Kevin Guthrie, director of\u2063 Florida\u2019s Department of Emergency Management. That includes &#8220;disaster recovery, recovery centers, mobile registration, intake centers, and even disaster support assistance teams.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>9:20 AM: Still No Storm-Related Deaths<\/h2>\n<p>Rescue\u2063 efforts continue to be made by Florida&#8217;s\u2062 Urban Search and Rescue teams, Florida National Guard, the Coast \u2063Guard, Florida Fish \u200band\u2062 Wildlife Conservation Commission, and\u200d the Florida State Guard, Gov. Ron DeSantis reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are still reports rolling in,&#8221; he said, &#8220;but as of last\u2064 night, there were approximately 40 successful rescues made, including 29 by the Florida National Guard. Our Fish and Wildlife officers assisted\u2063 with a medical evacuation\u2063 yesterday, and they are conducting high water and welfare checks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2062 Department of Emergency Management director Kevin Guthrie said there have\u200d been no deaths related to the storm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this time,\u2062 no deaths have been reported to the medical examiner&#8217;s commission,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The governor and I\u200b really hit\u2062 that hard, &#8216;Evacuate. Evacuate. Evacuate. If you need power, please evacuate.&#8217; So, it seems that people have heeded that call. And we&#8217;re grateful for that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Guthrie and Mr. \u2062DeSantis\u200c pointed out that this situation differs greatly from what they found in Lee \u200bCounty.<\/p>\n<figure>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/florida-gov-desantis-gives-updates-on-hurricane-idalia-in-tallahassee-5483518\" alt=\"Florida Gov. And that provided more time\u2062 to \u200caccurately stage \u2064preparations. Also, Lee County is far more densely populated than areas hardest hit by Hurricane Idalia.<\/p>\n<h2>9:15 AM: Florida&#8217;s \u200bDeSantis: &#8216;This Community is Resilient&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>More\u2062 than 24 hours have\u200d passed since Hurricane Ialia made landfall in the State of Florida.
