in place of\u200c Xi.<\/p>\n<p>In China, two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/saudi-court-jails-womens-rights-activist-posing-challenge-for-biden\/\" title=\"Saudi court jails women\u2019s rights activist, posing challenge for Biden\">foreign diplomats<\/a> and a government official from another G20 country said that Xi will \u2063likely not be traveling for the summit.<\/p>\n<p>Two of these three sources in China \u2062said they were informed by Chinese officials, \u200bbut they were not aware of the reason\u2064 for Xi&#8217;s expected absence.<\/p>\n<p>All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to\u2062 the media.<\/p>\n<p>Anticipation of a meeting between Xi and Biden has been fueled by a stream of top U.S. officials visiting Beijing in recent months, including a trip by Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Another upcoming summit mooted for face-to-face talks between the two leaders is an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meeting \u200cin San Francisco on Nov. 12-18.<\/p>\n<p>Xi, who secured a precedent-breaking third\u2062 term \u2064as leader last October, has made few overseas trips since China abruptly dropped strict pandemic-induced border controls \u2062this year.<\/p>\n<p>He did, however, attend a meeting from leaders of the BRICS group of major\u2064 emerging economies\u2014Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa\u2014in South Africa last week.<\/p>\n<p>Several G20 ministerial meetings in India ahead of the summit have been contentious as Russia and China together <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/xi-jinping-likely-to-skip-g20-summit\/\" title=\"Xi Jinping may not attend G20 Summit.\">opposed joint statements<\/a> which included paragraphs condemning Moscow\u2063 for its invasion of Ukraine last year.<\/p>\n<p>Xi and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi held a rare conversation on\u200d the sidelines\u200b of the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg and\u200d discussed reducing tensions in the bilateral relationship that soured after clashes along their Himalayan frontier in 2020 left 24 soldiers dead.<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Krishn Kaushik in\u200b New\u2063 Delhi and Laurie Chen and Martin Quin Pollard in Beijing;
