According to them, the goal of\u2064 this rule has nothing to do with protecting wildlife, but \u200crather with pricing outdoorsmen and women off public \u200dlands.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Oliva, managing\u200b director\u2062 for public affairs for the \u2063National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a trade association for the firearms industry, expressed\u200b his\u2062 concerns,\u2064 stating, &#8220;This is a\u2064 way to price outdoorsmen and\u2064 women\u2062 off public lands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rule, \u200dproposed by the U.S.\u200d Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), would open three national wildlife refuges\u200c (NWRs), which has received praise from gun groups. However, critics argue\u200b that the rule is based on politics rather \u2063than solid research.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Jones, national director for hunter outreach for Gun\u200b Owners of America and a wildlife biologist, stated, &#8220;It is\u2064 not based on science. I believe this is designed to \u200bdrive\u200d up ammunition costs to discourage \u2064hunting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the FWS website, \u2063the rule, entitled &#8220;National Wildlife Refuge\u200c System: 2023-2024 Station-Specific Hunting and\u200d Sport\u2064 Fishing Regulations,&#8221; is intended to protect wildlife from lead poisoning. The FWS states that it used &#8220;the best available science&#8221; to write the rule.<\/p>\n<p>However, opponents argue that the available scientific studies do not support the FWS claims that lead is\u200b a widespread danger to wildlife.\u200c Lawrence G. Keane,\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-confirms-kathleen-hicks-as-deputy-defense-secretary\/\" title=\"Senate Confirms Kathleen Hicks as Deputy Defense Secretary\">senior vice president<\/a> for government affairs, assistant secretary, \u200dand general counsel for the NSSF, \u200bwrote in a letter to the FWS, &#8220;Decades\u200b of significant research\u2064 exist\u2064 on \u200dlead and wildlife. It is grossly misleading to insinuate that lead ammunition poses a danger\u2064 to &#8216;wildlife&#8217;\u2062 as a whole. The science \u200ddoes not support this \u200cclaim.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, opponents point out that alternatives \u200cto \u2063lead ammunition are scarce and expensive. As much as 95\u200c percent \u2062of \u2063all ammunition uses lead, and \u2064only about 1 percent of the alternative ammunition is\u2062 centerfire\u200d rifle ammunition used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gun-rights-advocates-say-proposed-lead-ammo-ban-part-of-larger-anti-hunting-agenda\/\" title=\"Gun rights advocates claim that the proposed ban on lead ammunition is just one piece of a broader agenda against hunting.\">big\u2062 game hunting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The\u2064 Impact on Hunters<\/h2>\n<p>Forcing hunters to\u2064 use only alternative non-lead ammunition on\u200b NWR land puts a strain\u2064 on the\u200c supply of that ammunition.
