Incumbent Senator \u2063Krysten Sinema (I-AZ) is up for re-election, but the state\u2019s 2024 Senate GOP primary could prove to be contentious. Former GOP\u200b gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has suggested she could\u200c also run for \u2063the seat next \u200cyear.<\/p>\n<p>Masters\u2019 last campaign was one of the most watched races\u200d of the 2022 cycle as it was widely seen as a \u2062key battleground in determining control of the Senate. Kelly was one of the best-funded\u2062 candidates of the 2022 cycle,\u2062 having raised over $70 million over the course of the campaign. \u200dMasters\u2019 campaign was\u200b hampered in general by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arizonas-blake-masters-running-for-senate-again-report\/\" title=\"Blake Masters is reportedly running for Senate in Arizona once again.\">poor \u2064fundraising relative<\/a> to Kelly\u2019s machine.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly led for the majority of \u200bhis\u2064 race for re-election despite\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-democrat-incumbent-mark-kelly-defeats-republican-blake-masters-in-arizona-senate-race-projection\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Democrat Incumbent Mark Kelly Defeats Republican Blake Masters In Arizona Senate Race: Projection\">significant perceived headwinds<\/a> \u2064for Democrats. During that race, the Democrat distanced himself from President Joe Biden, never requesting \u200cthat\u2062 Biden come to Arizona to campaign with him and demurring when asked about it by reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Polls tightened between Kelly and Masters in the closing weeks of the race. With \u200cone week left until election day, the\u200d Libertarian candidate in the race, Marc Victor, \u200bannounced that he was dropping out and endorsed Masters. While Victor never polled high, Masters touted the endorsement as\u200d a \u201cmajor boost\u201d in the close \u200crace against Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Kelly took home <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/11\/11\/1131245617\/arizona-senate-blake-masters-mark-kelly-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">roughly<\/a> 51% of the vote while Masters earned 46%.<\/p>\n<h3>Challenges Ahead for Masters in 2024<\/h3>\n<p>Barrett Marson, \u2063an\u2063 Arizona GOP strategist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/08\/30\/blake-masters-arizona-senate-sinema-00113525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predicted<\/a> to POLITICO\u2062 that Masters could have a \u2062tough time in 2024 if Lake enters the race.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI think he is now under the impression \u200bthat maybe Kari Lake isn\u2019t going to run, because I\u2019ll tell you if Lake and Blake\u2063 are both in, he is wasting his time,\u201d<\/strong> he\u200c said. <strong>\u201cThey occupy the same lane. They have nearly the same name.
