(Search for the patent \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/ppubs.uspto.gov\/pubwebapp\/static\/pages\/ppubsbasic.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>Research Paper and Utopian Goals<\/h3>\n<p>Leading up\u200c to\u2063 the patent filing, the inventors published a research paper stating their desire to manipulate online media in\u200b pursuit of a &#8220;utopia&#8221; of representative diversity.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The inventors\u200b \u2014 Mehrab Tanjim,\u2062 Ritwik Sinha, Moumita Sinha, David Thomas Arbour,\u200c and Sridhar Mahadevan \u2014 \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/openaccess.thecvf.com\/content\/WACV2022\/html\/Tanjim_Generating_and_Controlling_Diversity_in_Image_Search_WACV_2022_paper.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> the paper, &#8220;Generating and \u200cControlling Diversity in Image Search,&#8221; declaring that &#8220;generations of systemic biases&#8221; resulted in racial and gender demographic patterns existing in certain professions. The researchers also stated that stock image and image search engines reflect that bias, and that AI-generated images would be necessary because algorithm\u200d tweaking wouldn&#8217;t \u200bgo far enough to correct the issue.\u200c (Archive <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20211230194659\/https:\/\/openaccess.thecvf.com\/content\/WACV2022\/papers\/Tanjim_Generating_and_Controlling_Diversity_in_Image_Search_WACV_2022_paper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The pursuit of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/adobe-patents-ai-image-scanner-for-diversity-auditing\/\" title=\"Adobe patents AI image scanner for auditing diversity.\">utopian world demands providing content users<\/a> with an opportunity to present any profession with diverse racial\u2062 and gender characteristics,&#8221; stated the report.\u200b &#8220;To remedy these problems, we propose a new task of high-fidelity image generation by controlling multiple attributes \u2063from\u2062 imbalanced datasets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The paper is provided by \u200dthe Computer Vision \u200cFoundation, platformed by Microsoft Azure and sponsored by Amazon, Facebook, and Google. Arbour was formerly a\u2062 research\u2063 scientist for Facebook&#8217;s \u2064Core Data Science group.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\">CLICK HERE TO GET \u2062THE DAILY\u2062 WIRE APP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>AI System for Diversity Auditing and \u2062Content Tweaking<\/h3>\n<p>In an apparent extension of this research interest, the Adobe \u2062patent proposes an AI system\u2062 that can not only audit the diversity of images displayed on a website or database but tweak the content given to \u2063a user searching for certain images on\u2064 a\u200b database with a &#8220;representative set&#8221; of images in the return\u2063 results. The latter will occur if the AI system determines that the diversity score \u200cfor the image set is too low. At that point, the system may inform the user of\u2062 the diversity score of the images \u200bas well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;[T]he\u200b system augments the set of images to increase diversity in the set of images,&#8221; \u2063states the patent. &#8220;For example, the machine\u2062 learning apparatus may compute a diversity score [&#8230;] \u200c and determine that the set of images is\u200c below a predetermined threshold of \u200cdiversity in the number of different types\u200b of\u200c the\u200b sensitive attribute that are depicted by the \u2063set of images.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The patent noted that the system may retrieve data to determine appropriate diversity thresholds from census data or websites.<\/p>\n<p>The AI system would consist of a machine learning model that may include one or more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bruce-willis-denies-selling-rights-to-his-face-to-deepfake-company\/\" title=\"Bruce Willis Denies Selling Rights to His Face to Deepfake Company\">artificial neural networks<\/a> (ANNs), a type \u2064of technology inspired by the structure and function of human brain neurons. The machine learning model would consist \u2064of an image collection component, \u2062which\u200b leads to a face detection network, which leads to an image classification network, which leads to a\u200d distribution\u200b component, which leads to a scoring component, and results\u200d in a generator network.<\/p>\n<p>The image collection component identifies and collects \u200bboth specific images and websites,\u2062 as well as those identified and collected to achieve a higher diversity scoring. The face detection network \u2062includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-mit-helped-develop-tech-for-a-chinese-company-that-surveils-uyghurs\/\" title=\"MIT's involvement in developing surveillance technology for a Chinese company monitoring Uyghurs.\">convolutional neural network<\/a> \u2064(CNN), a deep learning algorithm that takes\u2062 an input image and \u200bassigns meaning to learn over \u2064time. The image classification network generates an image feature vector \u2014 a translation characterizing and \u200dnumerically quantifying images \u2014 with\u200b special attention to sensitive attributes that lend to a diversity score.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution component generates a distribution of images&#8217; sensitive attributes based on their classification, which then directly \u200dlends to the diversity score\u200b computation function of the scoring component. Then, the generator network may generate additional images based on the diversity score. Some of these images may be \u200cAI-generated creations &#8220;that look authentic to a human observer&#8221; using a\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/critics-complain-about-new-hyperrealistic-bold-glamour-tiktok-filter-blurs-the-lines-of-reality\/\" title=\"Critics Complain About New Hyperrealistic \u2018Bold Glamour\u2019 TikTok Filter: \u2018Blurs The Lines Of Reality\u2019\">generative adversarial network<\/a> (GAN).<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Upside, \u2064which first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailyupside.com\/adobe-brings-ai-to-dei-with-latest-patent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on the patent application, suggested that the \u200csystem could \u200balso be used \u200dto conduct diversity audits of \u2063a company&#8217;s employees based on images.<\/p>\n<p>Adobe last reported \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/about-adobe\/fast-facts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ownership<\/a> of over 200\u200d million\u2064 photos, 115 million vectors and illustrations, 26 million videos,\u200d and 73,000 music \u2062tracks.
