Her history of \u200cincompetence as a doctor and her tight relationship with Big \u200bPharma make her unqualified for this position. Her attempts now to fool Congress\u2063 with this\u2062 bogus \u2018ethics \u200bpledge\u2019\u200d just \u200creinforces this. Sen. Warren needs to \u2064reject this ploy \u200band make Dr. \u2062Bertagnolli answer for her past,\u201d said \u2064AAF President Tom Jones in a statement to The Daily Wire. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bertagnolli \u200bhas faced opposition after her appointment three months ago, including from Senator Bernie Sanders \u2063(I-VT),\u2062 who has\u2064 been using\u2063 her nomination \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/08\/29\/biden-elizabeth-warren-concession-nih-director-00113307\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to pressure<\/a> the White\u200b House over\u2064 drug\u2063 prices. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIn response to our conversation, I am willing to voluntarily extend the recusal period from two years \u2062to four years for all particular matters involving companies with which I have a previous\u2062 working relationship,\u201d\u2062 Bertagnolli wrote. \u201cIf confirmed as NIH Director, I will also further commit for four years following my tenure to\u200d not seek employment with or compensation from, including as a result of board \u2063service, any pharmaceutical company with annual\u200d revenues at or above $10\u2063 billion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research associated with Bertagnolli, \u2062has brought\u2062 in hundreds of millions of dollars, including tens of millions from COVID vaccine manufacturer Pfizer, <a href=\"https:\/\/openpaymentsdata.cms.gov\/physician\/114497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> \u200cto the Center for \u200dMedicare and Medicaid \u2064Service\u2019s Open Payments site. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Open Payments, Pfizer gave \u2064over $30 million to research associated with Bertagnolli \u200din 2022 and\u200b biotech company Seagen Inc. gave over $22 \u2062million that same \u200dyear. Associated\u2062 research is defined as\u2063 funding \u201cfor a research project of study where the physician is named as a principal investigator.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-check-nih-biden-pfizer-cancer-882296155977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fact-check<\/a> from the Associated Press on a \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-here-are-the-10-worst-colleges-for-free-speech\/\" title=\"Report: Here Are The 10 Worst Colleges For Free Speech\">social media posting<\/a> about Bertagnolli\u2019s\u2062 ties to Pfizer \u2063said that the\u2064 funding was not directly to her, but that\u2063 much of \u200dthe funding went \u200btoward a clinical trial for cancer treatment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThat may be \u200caccurate, but it misses the point.\u200b Monica Bertagnolli is\u2062 profiting handsomely off \u200bof the pharmaceutical industry\u2019s support for her research. Funds\u200c have flowed through to\u200d her salary at \u200cBrigham and \u2064Women\u2019s Hospital \/ Dana Farber Cancer Institute where she is \u200da \u2063researcher,\u201d a memo from the\u200b AAF said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The AAF\u200c has also pointed to Bertagnolli\u2019s previous ties\u2063 to Natera, where she earned hundreds \u200cof thousands of dollars in stock and \u200cwas on the board,\u200b before she\u2062 joined the National Cancer \u200bInstitute. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Natera has been scrutinized in the media, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/01\/upshot\/pregnancy-birth-genetic-testing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including<\/a> the New York Times, who reported that Natera\u2019s\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watchdog-says-elizabeth-warren-being-fooled-by-bogus-pledge-from-biden-nominee-on-big-pharma-payments\/\" title=\"Watchdog: Warren deceived by 'fake' pledge from Biden nominee on Big Pharma payments.\">genetic \u2064testing products<\/a> can often lead \u2063to false positives or negatives. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>a commitment to refrain from accepting money or employment with a Big Pharma firm for four years after her tenure, prompting concerns from a watchdog organization.
