Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Immigration is the Administration&#8217;s Weakest Issue<\/h2>\n<p>Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has \u2063described\u2064 immigration as &#8220;arguably this administration\u2019s weakest issue,&#8221; raising concerns \u2062among the public and Republican lawmakers regarding the southern border.<\/p>\n<p>When asked \u2063to grade President Joe Biden&#8217;s \u200dhandling\u2062 of the border crisis, Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that\u200c there are currently more \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aoc-says-immigration-is-arguably-biden-administrations-weakest-issue\/\" title=\"AOC claims immigration is possibly the Biden administration's weakest point.\">asylum-seekers held<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamalols-why-kamala-harris-is-always-laughing\/\" title=\"\u2018KamaLOLs\u2019: Why Kamala Harris Is Always Laughing\">private detention centers<\/a> than during the Trump administration. She also criticized the Biden administration for retaining Trump-era immigration policies.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Immigration is arguably\u200b this administration\u2019s weakest issue,&#8221; Ocasio-Cortez said. &#8220;This \u200cis one area where our policy is dictated \u200bby politics, arguably more \u200dso than almost any other. There are very clear recommendations and suggestions that\u2064 we have made to the administration to provide relief on this issue, and \u2064it\u2019s my belief that some \u2062of the hesitation\u200d around this has to do with a fear around just\u2064 being seen as approving or providing permission \u2064structures, or really just the Republican narratives that have \u200csurrounded immigration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez also addressed the question of \u200bwhy she, as a major Democrat \u200din Congress, has not yet\u2062 visited the \u200bsouthern border. She stated \u2062that visiting the border is something they\u200d are actively\u2064 planning on. However, she emphasized that she has been touring \u2064New York facilities\u2064 and believes that &#8220;this crisis is in our own backyard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Regarding New York residents protesting immigrants being sent to New York City, Ocasio-Cortez clarified that residents are still welcoming, but they need partnership from the federal government. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ioc-president-will-not-add-fuel-to-summer-olympics-cancellation-rumors\/\" title=\"IOC president will \u2018not add fuel\u2019 to Summer Olympics cancellation rumors\">recent poll showed<\/a> that 62%\u200d of registered voters in New York City support \u2063relocating immigrants to other parts of the state.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I think the issue that New Yorkers have\u200b is not that \u200bthere are\u2063 immigrants coming to New York City, but that immigrants are being prevented from\u200b sustaining and supporting themselves,&#8221; Ocasio-Cortez explained. &#8220;We have New Yorkers, and we have New \u200bYork businesses, that want to receive migrants and want to employ migrants. And that includes across the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The objection from New\u200d York residents about immigrants being sent to their state coincides with \u2063Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) busing\u200d immigrants \u2064to major Democratic\u200d cities, including New York City. Abbott has sent multiple \u2063buses to the city, causing further controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-facebooks-zuckerberg-needs-to-surrender-communications-with-fauci-over-covid-19\/\" title=\"House GOP: Facebook\u2019s Zuckerberg Needs to Surrender Communications With Fauci Over COVID-19\">faced significant criticism<\/a> for his administration&#8217;s handling of the \u2063border. A recent \u2063poll revealed that 48% of\u2062 likely U.S.\u2064 voters\u200d rated\u200c Biden as\u200c poor in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/one-in-five-democrats-prefer-republicans-on-immigration\/\" title=\"One in Five Democrats Prefer Republicans on Immigration\">handling issues related<\/a> to immigration,&#8221; while\u200b only 33% gave him a \u2064&#8221;good or excellent&#8221; rating on immigration.<\/p>\n<p>On\u200d Tuesday evening, investigative reporter \u200dSarah Bedford described the southern border as an &#8220;unmitigated disaster&#8221; for the \u200dBiden administration.
