Different paths led us to our \u2062year\u2062 with Justice \u2062Thomas, \u2062and we have followed different paths\u2063 since. But \u200dalong the way, we all saw with our own\u2063 eyes the \u200dsame thing: His integrity is unimpeachable,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Thomas&#8217; Journey<\/h3>\n<p>On the \u200cU.S. Supreme Court is a Justice descended from West African slaves\u2063 and born to a young mother, \u2062not more than 20, in segregated\u200b Georgia. Home\u2062 was \u2063Pin Point, among the Gullah-Geechee and\u200b oysters and marshlands. His\u200b father left.\u2063 And a fire took \u2064all he had and the shack where he lived.<\/p>\n<p>He was sent\u200c to\u200c Savannah along \u2064with his brother. They lived in their\u200c mother\u2019s one-room\u2062 tenement. Then, still just a child, taking all\u200c his belongings in\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/112-former-law-clerks-of-justice-thomas-write-open-letter-to-his-critics\/\" title=\"112 former law clerks of Justice Thomas pen open letter to critics\">half-filled paper grocery bag<\/a>, he went to live with his grandparents,\u2063 Myers and Christine \u200bAnderson. It was the longest \u200band most significant journey of \u200bhis life. He\u2063 and his brother flushed the indoor toilet every\u2062 time they walked by. The\u2063 kitchen \u2064refrigerator dazzled them.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas, they \u200bnoted, was \u200c\u201cset on becoming a priest.\u201d Alas: \u201cThen came 1968. King was assassinated. Then Kennedy.\u200b It transformed him.\u2064 He left behind hopes of the priesthood. He found Black\u2062 Power. He wrote about revolution. He protested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u200d went to \u200blaw school. He became a father. He worked \u200dfor legal aid. He saw forced busing and violence and insolence in South Boston. He \u2064devoted himself to \u200bdoing better for his \u200bson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe took\u200c the \u200droad less traveled. He went to\u2064 work for Republican Jack Danforth in the middle of\u200b Missouri. It \u2062was his only job \u200doffer. Years later, he went to Washington,\u200d D.C. He joined\u200d the Reagan administration. He \u2063pulled at \u200cevery thread\u200b of his country\u2019s founding and its history\u2014a country that had simultaneously enslaved his\u2062 ancestors while declaring \u2063\u201call men are created equal.\u201d He became a judge.\u200b And ultimately, a Justice,\u201d \u2062the letter continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And now, of course, the left wants\u200d to tear him down \u2014 just like they did\u200b in 1991 during his confirmation \u200chearings, and\u2062 just like \u2062they\u2019ve done at every opportunity since.<\/p>\n<p>As for\u2064 \u201cthe stories \u200b [that] have questioned his integrity and his ethics for \u2062the friends he keeps\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey bury the\u2062 lede.\u2064 These\u2062 friends are not parties before him as a Justice of the Court. And these \u200bstories are malicious, perpetuating the ugly assumption that the \u2064Justice cannot think for himself,\u201d\u200c the letter explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are part of\u200b a larger attack on the Court and its legitimacy as \u2064an institution. The picture they paint of the Court and the man for whom we worked bears no resemblance to reality,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n<p>And what is\u200d this \u201cpicture\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this \u200cyear, Pro Publica \u200dpublished a \u2064report that GOP megadonor Harlan Crow paid for vacations for Justice Thomas, including travel on a private jet,\u201d Fox News \u2064reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother reporter by the same outlet revealed that Thomas\u2019 great-nephew, whom \u200bThomas and his wife \u2064had taken into their care in 1997, had his tuition paid for by \u2062Crow at \u2064two \u2062private schools. \u2063The New York Times published a report that Thomas once accepted a Super Bowl ring from billionaire Dallas Cowboys \u200downer Jerry Jones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because, as we know, Jones won a 5-4 decision authored by Thomas in which the Cowboys were officially declared \u201cAmerica\u2019s Team.\u201d That, for\u200d the humor-challenged, was an obvious joke \u2014 the same way \u2064the accusations \u2062against Thomas\u2062 are.<\/p>\n<p>Clarence Thomas\u200d is a black \u2062conservative \u2014 and because of that, \u200dthe left has waged a three-decade war against him. First, it was spurious sexual harassment claims. Now, it\u2019s billionaires with no cases before the court buying influence he was in no position to peddle.<\/p>\n<p>The actual man, his clerks said in the \u2064open\u2064 letter, is \u2064much \u200bdifferent than the figure liberals\u2063 love\u200d to attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is \u200ca man of unwavering principle. He\u2063 welcomes\u2062 the lone dissent. He is\u200b also a man of great humor and warmth \u2063and generosity. Walk\u2063 the halls, and you\u2019ll hear \u2064his laugh.\u2062 Call, and he answers,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis\u200c grandfather\u2019s sayings become our sayings. His chambers become our chambers \u2013 a place fueled by unstoppable curiosity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/100-former-clerks-of-supreme-court-justice-clarence-thomas-speak-out\/\" title=\"100 Ex-Clerks of Justice Clarence Thomas Speak Up\">unreturned library books<\/a>, all to get every case just right,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd yet, the \u2062stories\u200d most\u200c often told of Justice Thomas are not these. The Justice\u200b is ever the \u200csubject of political headlines taking aim at his character, his\u2064 judicial \u200cphilosophy, \u200bhis marriage,\u200c even his race. They attempt to write over \u200chis actual story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve been trying to\u2063 do that for 32 years.
