Category 4\u200b storm.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the downgraded storm\u2063 brought \u2064with it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-england-areas-under-flood-watches-as-tropical-storm-elsa-continues-moving-northeast\/\" title=\"New England areas under flood watches as Tropical Storm Elsa continues moving northeast\">maximum sustained winds<\/a> of around 125 mph, while water levels along the coast \u2062are rapidly\u2062 rising, according \u200bto the U.S. National Hurricane Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHC_Atlantic\/status\/1696852128911011922\/photo\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NHC<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Related Story<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n        <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/ntd-news-today-aug-30-florida-reels-after-idalia-hits-as-category-3-hurricane-2-dead-georgia-da-seeks-oct-23-trial-date-5483236\">NTD News Today (Aug. 30):\u2062 Florida Reels After Idalia Hits\u200d as Category 3 Hurricane, 2 \u2064Dead; Georgia DA Seeks Oct. 23 Trial Date<\/a><br \/>\n        <span class=\"text-comp-caption text-[14px] leading-[18px]\">8\/30\/2023<\/span>\n      <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Later on \u200bWednesday, officials\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHC_Atlantic\/status\/1696885770240311571\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> winds\u2064 had slowed down slightly to 105 mph, still a\u2064 Category 2 hurricane.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricanes, which are not an uncommon occurrence in Florida, typically \u2063form over warm ocean waters; building up energy as they\u2062 suck up \u200bhot air from those waters while forming \u2064an area\u2063 of \u200clow pressure underneath.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Professor Kerry \u2063Emanuel, who teaches \u2063at the\u2064 Massachusetts\u200d Institute of Technology (MIT), \u200dsaid that Idalia &#8220;stands a chance \u200bof \u200csetting a record \u200cfor intensification rate\u2064 because it\u2019s over water that\u2019s so warm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Right now I\u2019m pretty sure Idalia is rapidly\u200d intensifying,&#8221;\u2062 Mr. Emanuel said.<\/p>\n<p>At \u2063the time Emanuel\u2064 said that, Idalia was clocking 80 mph winds. A couple hours later it was up to 90 mph, and by \u200c10 p.m.\u2063 Idalia\u200c was a Category 2 hurricane \u2062with\u2064 110 mph winds, having gained 40 mph\u200d in wind speed in 21 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists believe the warmer water \u2063temperatures, which \u2062in Florida Bay have been as high \u2064as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/science\/scientists-say-scary-sea-water-temperatures-recorded-near-florida-keys-5451182\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">113 degrees Fahrenheit<\/a> in recent months\u2014are the result of the warming\u200d trend in the Pacific Ocean known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/science\/the-heat-youre-feeling-could-just-be-el-nino-5348921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Ni\u00f1o<\/a> along with other \u200bweather events.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>People \u2064ride an ATV through the flooded streets caused by\u2064 Hurricane Idalia passing offshore in\u200c Tarpon\u200b Springs, Fla., on Aug. \u206430, 2023. (Joe \u200dRaedle\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>&#8216;Rocket Fuel for the Storm&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach also believes the hotter water \u2062temperatures are \u200dfueling up\u200c the storm, which will likely \u200bsee it intensify.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s \u206388, 89 degrees (31, 32\u2064 degrees Celsius) over \u200bwhere the storm\u2019s going to be tracking, so that\u2019s effectively \u200brocket fuel for the storm,&#8221;\u200d Mr. Klotzbach said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s\u2063 basically all systems go for the storm to intensify,&#8221; he\u2064 added.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, University at Albany\u2062 atmospheric sciences professor\u2064 Kristen Corbosiero cited warmer \u200cwaters \u200cas one of the reasons for Idalia&#8217;s intensification, \u2063noting that the storm has\u200b been parked at \u2062times\u200b over the Loop\u2064 Current\u2014a warm ocean current that flows northward between\u200c Cuba and the Yucat\u00e1n\u2063 Peninsula\u2014and circular currents of \u2062water from that current known as &#8220;eddies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This\u200b would likely fuel its intensity even more, she explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s not that those warm temperatures cause the storm to form,&#8221; Allison A. \u200dWing, an associate professor of earth, ocean, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cnn-says-fossil-fuels-kill-more-people-each-year-than-the-holocaust-heres-the-truth\/\" title=\"CNN Says Fossil Fuels Kill More People Each Year Than The Holocaust. Here\u2019s The Truth\">atmospheric science<\/a> at Florida State\u200d University, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/hot-ocean-temperatures-could-hurricane-190336469.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> The New York Times. &#8220;It\u2019s\u200c more\u2062 that, if a storm is able to form, it can take advantage of\u200b those incredibly warm temperatures and become a\u200b strong\u2062 storm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Within the past\u200d 24 hours, Hurricane Idalia \u2064has intensified rapidly, data \u2064from NHC \u2063shows, \u2062initially clocking\u2062 in winds of 75 mph before\u200b shooting up to winds of nearly 130\u200d mph.<\/p>\n<p>Officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/refresh\/graphics_at5+shtml\/093940.shtml?key_messages#contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> the storm could bring &#8220;destructive \u200clife-threatening\u200b winds&#8221; along Florida&#8217;s Big \u2063Bend \u2064region with those strong \u2064winds expected to also hit portions of northern Florida and the adjacent states of Georgia and South Carolina.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Cars sit in flood\u2062 waters from Hurricane \u200bIdalia after\u2063 it passed offshore\u200c in Tarpon Springs, Fla., \u2062on \u2062Aug. 30, 2023. (Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>2 Dead in Weather-Related Accidents<\/h2>\n<p>Widespread flooding this morning has already left homes and buildings in Florida submerged and rendered some roads unusable, with flood water <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FlyTPA\/status\/1696879568181756155\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inundating<\/a> runways at Tampa International Airport, which has canceled all flights.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, more than 270,000 people are <a href=\"https:\/\/poweroutage.us\/area\/state\/florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">without power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Florida officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/brianbushard\/2023\/08\/30\/at-least-two-killed-as-hurricane-idalia-causes-widespread-damage-in-florida\/?sh=2101ceb13479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> \u200bat least two people died \u200das a result \u200cof Idalia\u2014 a 40-year-old man who died this \u200dmorning in Pasco County, part of Florida\u2019s Big Bend region, \u200bin a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/warmer-waters-could-serve-as-rocket-fuel-for-hurricane-idalia-experts\/\" title=\"Warmer waters may fuel Hurricane Idalia, warn experts.\">weather-related accident early<\/a> this morning, and a 59-year-old man from Gainesville, Florida,\u2063 was also \u2062killed after veering into \u2064a ditch and hitting a tree while \u2064driving.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Hurricane Idalia touching\u2063 down, Florida Gov.
