(Photo \u2062courtesy of Stephen Friend)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As previously\u200c reported by\u2062 The Epoch Times, the U.S. government has spent over two years relentlessly pursuing individuals involved in the U.S. Capitol protests on Jan. 6, 2021. More than\u2062 1,000 have been arrested, with many\u2063 being incarcerated without trial or conviction.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To this day, the FBI is actively\u2063 seeking the public&#8217;s assistance in identifying individuals connected to the\u200c events of that day,\u2064 utilizing\u200d their full\u2064 investigative resources \u2063and collaborating with federal, state, and local partners to aggressively pursue those involved in criminal activities.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Friend, a 12-year veteran of the FBI and a SWAT \u2063team member, was suspended after raising concerns about the department&#8217;s overzealous methods in persecuting conservative\u2062 Americans as part of the ongoing investigation into the events of Jan. 6,\u200c 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He also refused to participate in excessive force SWAT\u200b raids against Jan. 6 suspects accused of \u2063misdemeanor offenses.<\/p>\n<p>Following his suspension, 30 former FBI agents publicly expressed their support for Mr. \u200dFriend, \u200bwith\u2064 retired\u200c San Francisco agent Ernie\u200b Tibaldi commending him for standing up against\u200d the corruption that has infiltrated the FBI&#8217;s leadership.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Heavy-Handed&#8217;\u200d but &#8216;Legal&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>While acknowledging the FBI&#8217;s\u200d tactics as &#8220;heavy-handed,&#8221; John Malcom, vice president for the\u200c Institute for\u200d Constitutional Government for The Heritage Foundation, \u200dasserts that their efforts to apprehend Jan. 6 participants are within the bounds\u2062 of the law.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:285px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>John\u2062 Malcolm,\u200c vice president \u2064for \u200bthe Institute for Constitutional\u200b Government for The\u200d Heritage Foundation. (The Heritage Foundation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Malcom explains that although their actions may be seen as unseemly\u2063 and outrageous,\u2064 they are legal. He points out that \u200bthe statute of limitations for Jan. 6 offenses is\u2064 at least five years,\u2064 allowing the FBI to pursue arrests \u200cand bring individuals to justice.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that \u2064many may view these efforts as politically motivated, Mr. Malcom refrains from disabusing them of that notion, emphasizing \u200cthat the FBI&#8217;s aggressive approach to law enforcement warrants a legitimate inquiry into whether it is driven by showmanship or political purposes.<\/p>\n<h2>Justifying the Budget<\/h2>\n<p>Joseph McBride, an attorney representing several Jan. 6 defendants, concurs with \u200dMr. Malcom&#8217;s assessment that those\u200b involved in more\u2064 violent \u200dactivities on Jan. 6 have already been\u200b apprehended. He suggests that the FBI&#8217;s continued pursuit\u200b of additional Jan. 6 participants \u200bis an attempt to justify their request for increased funding, even as arrest\u2063 rates have significantly declined.<\/p>\n<p>According to NBC, the pace \u200dof arrests has slowed considerably, \u200dwith federal prosecutors having only three years\u200b left \u2063until\u2063 the \u200bstatute of limitations expires for most\u200c Jan. 6 offenses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They had to justify their budget,&#8221;\u200d Mr. McBride\u200c told The Epoch \u200dTimes. &#8220;January 6 is easy pickings. They&#8217;re easy convictions.\u2064 The more convictions they have, the more money they can ask for. They&#8217;re trying to justify the rise in funding for\u2064 their police state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tucked into\u2064 the \u2063Democrat&#8217;s 4,155-page $1.7 trillion government funding \u200cbill for fiscal year 2023 is an allocation for additional funds to prosecute Jan. 6 cases.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in the summary by the\u2062 House Appropriations \u200bCommittee,\u2062 the government has dedicated an \u2063extra $11.33 billion to\u200b fund efforts to investigate extremist\u2063 violence and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jordan-warns-wray-produce-docs-on-fbi-bullying-of-catholics-and-concerned-parents-or-be-held-in-contempt\/\" title=\"Jordan warns Wray: Hand over docs on FBI bullying of Catholics and parents or face contempt.\">domestic \u200dterrorism<\/a>,\u2064 including $2.63 billion for U.S.\u2064 attorneys prosecuting Jan. \u200c6 defendants\u200c and prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ&#8217;s\u2062 budget request\u2064 for the\u200d FBI for fiscal year 2023 is \u200b$10,803.6 million, covering a significant number \u200cof positions,\u2063 attorneys, and \u2064agents.<\/p>\n<h2>Expansion of Conservative Targets<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Friend\u200d reveals that the Department of Justice is\u2062 gradually\u2063 expanding its focus on conservative targets.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2064 October 2020, the \u2064Department\u200d of Homeland Security expressed \u200dconcern about\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-depth-americans-becoming-more-aware-of-the-fbis-malfeasance-fbi-whistleblower\/\" title=\"Americans increasingly recognizing FBI misconduct: Whistleblower\">white \u200bsupremacist violent extremists<\/a>.
