However, what\u200d the\u2064 ACLU conveniently fails to mention is that the plaintiff in this case, Jonathan Richardson, is behind bars for the \u200cheinous murder of an 11-month-old baby.<\/p>\n<p>The ACLU&#8217;s Indiana branch recently filed the lawsuit on behalf of Richardson, \u2063who now goes by the\u2063 name Autumn Cordellion\u00e9. \u2062The lawsuit, which was \u200bfiled in the U.S. District Court\u2063 for the Southern District of Indiana, seeks to allow Richardson to undergo transgender genital surgery while\u200b serving his sentence. The lawsuit provides minimal information about Richardson, only\u2063 stating that he is an &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aclu-demands-gender-surgery-for-trans-identifying-male-who-murdered-baby\/\" title=\"ACLU urges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elliot-page-lands-time-magazine-cover-talks-of-transgender-surgery\/\" title=\"Elliot Page Lands TIME Magazine Cover, Talks Of Transgender Surgery\u00a0\">gender surgery<\/a> for trans-identifying male who killed baby.&#8221;>adult transgender female prisoner confined<\/a> in a male institution within the Indiana Department of Correction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to \u200brecords from the\u200b Indiana Department of \u200dCorrection, Richardson was convicted of murdering his stepdaughter in 2001. The baby&#8217;s autopsy revealed that she had \u200dbeen manually strangled to death while her mother was at work. Richardson admitted to shaking the \u200cchild in a rough manner. \u2063In fact, while incarcerated, Richardson even confessed to corrections officers, saying, &#8220;Well all I know is I killed the little f***ing bitch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Richardson \u200cwas sentenced to 55 years behind\u2064 bars in 2002,\u2062 with his earliest possible release date set for 2027. However, the ACLU&#8217;s lawsuit aims to challenge an \u2064Indiana law that prohibits the \u200buse of taxpayer money for sexual reassignment\u200d surgery for prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims that Richardson was diagnosed with gender dysphoria while incarcerated and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scoop-florida-medicaid-deems-experimental-mutilative-sex-surgeries-hormones-insufficiently-safe-for-coverage\/\" title=\"Scoop: Florida Medicaid Deems \u2018Experimental\u2019 Mutilative Sex Surgeries, Hormones Insufficiently Safe For Coverage\">taking female hormones<\/a> and testosterone since 2020. The complaint argues that gender surgery is now a medical necessity due to Richardson&#8217;s ongoing depression and anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s new law, which went into effect on July 1,\u2064 is being challenged by the ACLU for\u2062 violating the Eighth Amendment&#8217;s prohibition on excessive punishments\u2063 and the \u200cFourteenth Amendment&#8217;s Equal Protection clause. The complaint \u200bstates that Richardson\u200d has identified as female since childhood and that his current \u2062living conditions cause distress, leading to attempted suicide.<\/p>\n<p>While the ACLU has not responded to requests\u2062 for comment, the office of Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has pushed\u2062 back against the \u200clawsuit. Rokita&#8217;s office \u200bargues that taxpayers should not be responsible for funding gender surgeries for prisoners, which can cost anywhere from $10,000\u200b to $150,000.<\/p>\n<p>It\u200d is worth noting that this is not\u200c the\u200b first time\u2063 incarcerated transgender individuals have sought gender-affirming treatments.
