Ms.\u2064 Criswell emphasized the importance of preparing the nation for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-hawaii-wildfires-caused-by-climate-change-media-said-before-we-learned-the-real-cause\/\" title=\"Hawaii Wildfires Initially Blamed on Climate Change, But Real Cause Revealed Later\">extreme weather \u2063events<\/a> while responding\u200c to current disasters.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the Disaster Relief Fund remains adequately\u200d funded, Immediate Needs Funding will be prioritized over long-term recovery\u2063 and \u200dhazard mitigation projects until Congress takes\u2063 action.<\/p>\n<p>The current balance of the fund is \u200c$3.4 billion, according to \u200cMs. Criswell.<\/p>\n<p>While the immediate\u200b needs funding provides temporary relief, Ms. Criswell stressed that it is not a permanent solution.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>(L-R) President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Hawaii Gov. (Mandel Ngan \/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Current Funding Will Last Until End of Year<\/h2>\n<p>Ms. Criswell urged Congress to work with FEMA on a supplemental request for $12 billion,\u200d which would sustain the fund until the end of the fiscal year. She emphasized that continuous monitoring \u2064of the fund&#8217;s health is necessary\u200c in case additional funding is required.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA officials previously warned that the disaster relief fund could run dry within \u200dweeks without congressional action. However,\u2064 lawmakers are not scheduled to return to the Capitol until Sept. 4.<\/p>\n<p>According to \u2064FEMA&#8217;s latest report, \u2062the fund will face a $4 billion deficit by the end of September if it is not\u200d replenished.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to CBS, Ms. Criswell expressed\u200c concerns that the fund \u2062could run out\u2062 by mid-September, but assured that\u200b the situation is being closely monitored.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c the meantime, some recovery projects will be delayed until the\u2063 next fiscal year, Ms. Criswell\u200d added.<\/p>\n<p>It remains uncertain whether Congress will approve the additional \u2062disaster funding, which is tied to emergency spending for Ukraine amid the \u2062ongoing Russian invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Sen.
