However, there \u200dis \u200bno \u2062evidence suggesting that it causes more severe illness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we \u2062enter the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-covid-variant-ba-2-86-detected-in-new-york-citys-sewage-health-department\/\" title=\"New COVID Variant BA.2.86 found in NYC sewage: Health Dept.\">traditional respiratory virus season<\/a>, an updated COVID-19 vaccine\u200b is\u2063 expected to \u200bbe available in the coming weeks,&#8221; he added, emphasizing that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/south-korea-logs-second-highest-daily-tally-of-covid-cases-amid-prison-church-outbreaks\/\" title=\"South Korea logs second-highest daily tally of COVID cases amid prison, church outbreaks\">health authorities<\/a> will \u200ccontinue to closely monitor the virus.<\/p>\n<h2>First Confirmed Case in Canada<\/h2>\n<p>Health\u2063 officials in British Columbia, \u2062Canada, released a statement on Aug.\u200b 29 confirming the detection of the BA.2.86 variant in a local resident who has\u200d not traveled \u200coutside the province.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the first\u200c known case \u200bof the BA.2.86 variant in\u2063 Canada. \u2064The statement assures that the infected individual is not hospitalized, and \u200dthere is no indication \u200bof increased severity\u200c associated with the new variant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The presence of BA.2.86 in Canada and the province was not\u2062 unexpected.
