I will never\u200d stop\u200d fighting for the people\u200c of Texas and defending our conservative values,&#8221; Mr. Paxton wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1695522881025839506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> in response to the rumors.<\/p>\n<p>On\u2064 Saturday, Scott \u200bBraddock, editor of\u2063 the Quorum Report,\u200c tweeted about &#8220;credible chatter&#8221; that the suspended AG would \u2063resign to\u200b avoid testifying at the Senate trial,\u2064 set to kick off on Sept. 5.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s\u200c credible chatter in the last 24 hours that Texas AG Paxton \u2063will resign \u200dprior to the \u2063impeachment\u2064 trial to avoid testifying. Lt. Gov. Patrick *may* be back-channeling to Paxton that it \u200bwon&#8217;t go well for him in the Texas Senate and to make it easier on\u200d everyone. \u200cDeveloping&#8230;,&#8221; Braddock wrote\u2062 on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lt. Gov. \u200dDan\u2062 Patrick, president of the Senate and presiding over the impeachment trial, also fired back\u2064 at Mr. Braddock on X, calling the story &#8220;outrageous and irresponsible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is total false \u200dreporting. There are no &#8216;back-channel&#8217; conversations with any party to \u200bthe proceedings.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8216;This is\u200b a fabricated story and an outrageous\u2064 and irresponsible tweet by nothing\u200b but a \u2063hack writer who \u2063often spreads false information \u200dwithout any facts,&#8221; Mr. Patrick said on \u200dX.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>GOP Pressure Mounts<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Patrick, described as the &#8220;most powerful figure in \u200cTexas politics,&#8221; has repeatedly\u200d vowed to\u2064 oversee a fair trial. Ms. \u200bGuzman is a former state Supreme \u200bCourt\u2063 justice\u200b who attempted to unseat Mr. Paxton in\u2064 the Republican \u200dprimary.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Brown said in \u200da letter dated Aug. 19 that\u2062 he had not recalled the contribution until the day after accepting the \u200bcounsel role.
