However, eyebrows are being raised over new details, which show prison inmates and illegal immigrants would be eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Republican senators have sounded the alarm over who is actually receiving direct payments from the COVID relief bill.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">9\/x \u2026reflexively believe his gals charge that I was the one lying.<\/p>\n<p>FACT 14: When the checks go out, millions of illegal immigrants WILL GET $1400 checks.<\/p>\n<p>PREDICTION: the Lefty press &amp; pundits won\u2019t cover it, and won\u2019t care.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1368693132062253056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sponsored a proposal to block illegal immigrants from receiving stimulus checks, saying the COVID relief bill failed to address the \u201creal needs\u201d of Americans. However, Democrats blocked this effort, meaning payments will be doled out to mixed status families that include individuals in the U.S. illegally.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sen. Cruz\u2019s amendment is estimated to block stimulus checks from two million qualifying U.S. citizen children with undocumented parents, including 350,000 kids in Texas. These American kids should receive this relief just as other American kids do. Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorDurbin?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenatorDurbin<\/a> objects \u2b07\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Nz56w1k0pd\">pic.twitter.com\/Nz56w1k0pd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senate Judiciary Committee (@JudiciaryDems) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JudiciaryDems\/status\/1368238591202197504?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 6, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition, what\u2019s been dubbed as Joe Biden\u2019s \u201cAmerica Last Agenda,\u201d is only gaining traction as he\u2019s continued to succumb to pressure from the left in minimizing who would be eligible. This came as Democrats moved to make the stimulus money more \u201ctargeted,\u201d by changing the income requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The amount initially started phasing out at $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for couples, ultimately landing on $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for couples. Anyone making more than that would get essentially nothing, marking around 17 million Americans who will not benefit from the stimulus.<\/p>\n<p>House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth admitted there will be people who could use the direct payments but won\u2019t get it, saying it\u2019s okay because 250 million people will get them.<\/p>\n<p>All the while, millions of Americans haven\u2019t even received the previous stimulus checks in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Treasury Department, roughly 8 million taxpayers didn\u2019t get their direct payments from previously passed stimulus bills. Reports said the IRS was unable to send the payments to individuals who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019. However, those who missed the payment can still claim a refundable credit on their 2020 tax return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut for taxpayers, this stimulus payment turns into a refundable credit on their 2020 tax return if they didn\u2019t receive it,\u201d Michelle Staebell, a certified public accountant said. \u201cSo both the first stimulus and the second stimulus need to be reconciled on the taxpayer\u2019s 2020 tax return, and then how ever much the taxpayer should have received that they haven\u2019t received, will be refunded when they file their tax return.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the House is set to vote on the massive bill later this week.
