Mr. Chesebro&#8217;s trial from other co-defendants&#8217; trials.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200ca\u200d new memorandum submitted on Aug. \u200b29, Ms. Willis reiterated her original position, arguing \u200cthat, in order \u2062to meet the dual goals of granting the speedy trial motion\u200c and trying all 19 defendants together, the trial \u200bdate should \u2063be set for all 19 defendants \u200bon Oct. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Under the\u2063 law, the state\u2063 can \u2064try some types of defendants together in a single case.<\/p>\n<p>In order to sever a case from a larger trial, a defendant must show that their rights\u200c are substantially threatened by a joint \u2063trial, a claim which must be \u2063investigated by \u2063a judge during a dedicated \u2062hearing.<\/p>\n<p>For\u2062 instance, if the number of\u2064 defendants creates confusion, \u2064if evidence \u2062admissible \u2062against one defendant\u200c is not admissible against another, or if the defenses of various defendants are antagonistic to the rights or legal protections of the other, a defendant can seek severance from a joint\u2062 trial.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. \u200cWillis argued\u2063 that because \u2062no hearing\u2063 has \u200bbeen held to consider severance requests, \u2063Judge McAfee&#8217;s Aug. 24 order should be set aside pending further legal\u2064 action on the \u2064matter.<\/p>\n<p>She called for the judge\u200c to set a deadline for defendants in the \u2063case to issue motions to sever, and to hold a subsequent hearing to consider these motions.<\/p>\n<p>Following the request by Mr. Chesebro\u2063 and Ms. Powell for a speedy trial, President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-judge-respond-to-fulton-county-das-october-2023-trial-proposal-5480217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that he\u200c would introduce a motion to sever his case from \u2062those seeking a speedy trial.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Steven Sadow, a recent addition to\u200d President Trump&#8217;s legal team,\u2063 wrote a response to \u200dthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/19-year-old-arrested-in-calif-for-double-murder\/\" title=\"19-year-old arrested in Calif. for double murder\">district attorney&#8217;<\/a>s Aug. 24 motion to oppose \u2063the Oct. 23 trial date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump\u200d &#8230;
