The Federal Emergency Management\u2062 Agency\u2062 (FEMA) is partnering\u200d with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to conduct this\u200c test, which aims to evaluate the \u2062effectiveness of communication systems during national or local emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The test is scheduled for October 4 \u2063and will involve various devices such as \u200bTVs, radios, and mobile phones. FEMA and the FCC have been working diligently with EAS\u2063 participants, wireless providers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tornadoes-touch-down-in-texas\/\" title=\"Tornadoes touch down in Texas\">emergency managers<\/a>, \u2063and other stakeholders\u200c to ensure a smooth and valuable test experience for the public.<\/p>\n<h3>What to \u2063Expect During the Test<\/h3>\n<p>The national test will consist of two parts: testing Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and EAS capabilities. The test will begin \u200dat approximately 2:20 p.m. ET on\u2064 Wednesday, October \u200b4. Mobile phone towers \u2064will broadcast the test for about 30 minutes, reaching every phone\u2063 within\u200c range of an active cell tower. The \u200dWEA portion of the\u2063 test \u200cwill be\u2063 sent to all phones nationwide, with messages in either English or Spanish based on individual language settings.<\/p>\n<p>For English language settings, the message will read: <strong>\u201cTHIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency\u2064 Alert System. No action is needed.\u201d<\/strong> Spanish language settings will receive a message that reads: <strong>\u201cESTA ES UNA PRUEBA del\u2064 Sistema Nacional de Alerta\u2063 de Emergencia. No se necesita acci\u00f3n.\u201d<\/strong> Each\u200d test message\u200b will last approximately one minute and \u2064will be accompanied by a unique tone and vibration.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dEAS \u200cportion of the test will be directed at radios and TVs. This will be the seventh nationwide test of the system, which was\u2063 first launched in 1997\u2063 to enable the president to address the American \u2063people during national emergencies.<\/p>\n<h3>Backup Date and Purpose of the Test<\/h3>\n<p>In case the October 4 test is\u2063 postponed due to severe weather or other significant events, a backup testing date of\u2063 October 11 has been \u200cdesignated. The purpose of this test \u200bis to ensure that the EAS and WEA systems continue to effectively warn the public\u2062 about emergencies, particularly those on a national level.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA\u2062 and the\u2063 FCC are committed to minimizing confusion and maximizing the\u2063 public safety value of this test.
