Recent media reports have suggested that he received improper gifts from a\u2064 Texas billionaire.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;As his law clerks, we\u2063 offer this response. Different paths \u2064led us to our year with Justice Thomas, and \u200cwe have followed different paths since. But along the way, we all saw with our own eyes the same thing: His\u200c integrity\u200c is unimpeachable,&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter,\u200d which can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.docdroid.net\/Hj6qlkF\/clarence-thomas-et-pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, was signed by 112 individuals, including three circuit court judges. They are part of a larger attack on the Court and its legitimacy as an\u2063 institution,&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter also stated, <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The picture they paint of \u2064the Court and the man for whom we\u200c worked bears no\u2062 resemblance to reality.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;As his law clerks, we offer this response,&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>it also said, referring to the media reports about \u200bJustice Thomas. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;His \u2064independence is unshakable, deeply rooted seven decades ago as that young child who walked through the door\u2063 of his grandparents\u2019\u2063 house\u2063 for \u200ca life forever changed,&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> they continued.<\/p>\n<p>The former clerks then described Justice Thomas&#8217; upbringing in\u2064 Alabama and how he was\u2062 destined to\u2064 become a priest before the assassination of \u200bformer President John F. Kennedy in the 1960s, which \u200dmade him decide to pursue law \u2062instead.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe is \u2064a man \u2064of unwavering principle.\u200c He welcomes the\u200b lone dissent. \u200cHe is also a man of great humor and warmth and generosity. Walk the halls, and you\u2019ll hear his laugh. \u2062Call, and he answers,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> the\u2063 letter continued.\u2062 <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHis grandfather\u2019s sayings become our sayings. His chambers become our chambers\u2014a place fueled \u200cby \u200cunstoppable curiosity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/100-former-clerks-of-supreme-court-justice-clarence-thomas-speak-out\/\" title=\"100 Ex-Clerks of Justice Clarence Thomas Speak Up\">unreturned library books<\/a>, all \u200dto get every case just right.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter went on to make reference to Thomas\u2019 \u2063upbringing and education, how he \u2063was changed by life in the segregated\u200b South, and how he had been destined \u200cfor the priesthood \u200bbefore the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King\u2064 Jr. \u200bled \u2063him to \u2063the law instead.<\/p>\n<p>Reports \u2064from ProPublica, a \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-times-wildly-distorts-state-bills-banning-critical-race-theory-claims-republicans-want-to-stop-teaching-slavery-and-racism\/\" title=\"New York Times Wildly Distorts State Bills Banning Critical Race Theory, Claims Republicans Want To Stop Teaching Slavery And Racism\">left-leaning media outlet<\/a>, have\u200c claimed that the Supreme Court \u2064justice accepted at least 38 vacations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flight-data-shows-transportation-sec-buttigieg-often-flies-on-taxpayer-funded-jets\/\" title=\"Flight Data Shows Transportation Sec Buttigieg Often Flies on Taxpayer-Funded Jets\">26 private jet flights<\/a>,\u200d 12 VIP\u200b passes to sporting events, and two resort trips during his time as a justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some of the hospitality, such as\u200b stays\u2062 in personal homes, may\u200b not have required disclosure, Thomas appears \u2064to have violated the law \u2063by failing to \u2064disclose flights, yacht\u200b cruises \u2062and expensive sports tickets, according to ethics \u2064experts,\u201d the report in August said.<\/p>\n<p>But the \u2063letter, in addressing those reports, asserted that they&#8217;re part of \u2062a broader series of \u2062attacks on the Supreme Court itself.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cLately,\u200c the stories have questioned his integrity and his ethics\u2062 for the friends he \u200dkeeps.\u200b They bury the lede. These\u200d friends are not \u200dparties before him as a Justice of the\u2064 Court. And these \u200cstories are malicious, perpetuating\u200b the ugly\u2064 assumption that \u200bthe Justice cannot think for himself,\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>the letter said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/over-100-former-clerks-justice-thomas-sign-open-letter-defending-his-integrity-independence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox\u2064 News<\/a>, \u2063which obtained the document. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey are part of a larger\u200c attack on the Court and its legitimacy as an institution. The picture\u200d they paint\u200b of the Court and \u200dthe man for \u200cwhom we worked bears no resemblance to reality.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Congressional Democrats have said the reports call into question whether Justice Thomas followed \u200dthe high court&#8217;s ethics rules and have vowed\u2063 to\u2064 make changes to the Supreme \u200dCourt. They have also called on the associate justice, \u2064an appointee of \u2063former President George H.W. Bush, to recuse himself from certain cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice\u2063 Thomas has brought shame upon himself and\u2063 the United \u200cStates Supreme Court with his acceptance of massive, repeated and undisclosed gifts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>since then.
