Everyone was shocked,\u201d said operating surgeon Doctor Hari Priya Bandi. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2064 woman complained of having several \u2062symptoms\u2063 such as fever, night sweats and dry cough.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>She was placed in a hospital in January of 2021, an initial scan revealed she had\u2063 \u201can atypical lesion \u200cwithin the right frontal\u200d lobe of \u200bthe brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After several months, her symptoms developed into depression and forgetfulness. <\/p>\n<p>However, the parasite was only discovered by Dr. Bandi\u2019s knife while performing a biopsy in June of 2022. <\/p>\n<p>Doctors \u200binvolved with the procedure believed \u200bthe red parasite \u2062was alive in her brain for almost two months. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, once the worm was pulled out, \u200dmolecular tests\u200c confirmed the parasite was a <em>Ophidascaris robertsi<\/em>, which is a roundworm commonly found in pythons, according to a press release from the Australian National University\u2063 and the\u2063 Canberra Hospital. <\/p>\n<p>Carpet pythons in Australia carry the \u2062 <em>Ophidascaris robertsi<\/em> and shed parasite\u200b eggs in their feces, which spreads \u200cthrough vegetation that mammals and marsupials eat. <\/p>\n<p>According to Canberra Hospital infectious disease expert Sanjaya \u200bSenanayake, the woman was an accidental host of the worm\u2064 and the parasite \u2062was present in other\u2062 organs in the patient\u2019s body, including\u200b the lungs and liver. <\/p>\n<p>Experts believed she caught the roundworm\u200c by collecting a type of native grass\u200d near\u200b an area inhabited by carpet pythons. <\/p>\n<p>This case is \u200dthe first instance of a larvae invasion and development\u2063 in the human brain, according to researchers from the Emerging Infectious Diseases Journal. <\/p>\n<p>The woman is\u2062 currently recovering well, according to doctors.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
