He faces two felony\u200d counts of first-degree murder and possession of a\u200c weapon\u2064 on\u200d educational property.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>University Community \u200cComes Together to Honor the Victim<\/h2>\n<p>Kevin Guskiewicz, chancellor of UNC-Chapel \u200bHill, said that the school will ring its bell tower in honor of \u200cYan on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I encourage every Tar Heel to take a moment of silence during that time,&#8221; Guskiewicz said. &#8220;At this time, let\u2019s continue to support one another and strengthen our #UNC \u2062community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our hearts are with the family of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/he-was-acquitted-of-raping-a-young-teen-he-coached-now-hes-suing-the-city-and-police-department\/\" title=\"He Was Acquitted Of Raping A Young Teen He Coached. Now He\u2019s Suing The City And Police Department.\">fellow faculty member<\/a>, those\u2064 who are personally connected to the victim, and those \u2062traumatized by this senseless act of violence,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Investigation and Campus Lockdown<\/h2>\n<p>UNC-Chapel\u2064 Hill went on \u2063lockdown for\u2063 a few hours \u2064on Monday after\u2064 reports of an armed \u2063and dangerous\u200b person on or near campus. UNC police confirmed\u2064 later that evening that they had arrested the suspect.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The firearm\u200d used in the shooting, described as a 9mm handgun, was \u200dnot immediately recovered in Monday&#8217;s shooting. Authorities said they would be interviewing the suspect for a motive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We certainly want the opportunity to \u2064interview the suspect,&#8221; UNC Police Chief Brian James said during a press conference. &#8220;To actually have the suspect in custody gives us an opportunity to figure\u200b out the why. And even the \u200dhow, and also helps us to uncover a motive and\u200c &#8230; really\u2062 just \u200bwhy this happened today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Connection Between \u200dYan and Qi<\/h2>\n<p>While Yan and Qi appeared to be involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elite-american-university-remains-in-alliance-with-the-chinese-communist-party\/\" title=\"Elite American University Remains In Alliance With The Chinese Communist Party\">applied sciences<\/a>, the police did not \u200dspecify how or\u2063 if Yan and Qi knew each other.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>However, a university \u200ddepartment web \u200bpage that has since been removed had listed Qi as being a member\u200d of \u2064Yan&#8217;s lab group, according to NBC News. \u2062A paper published\u200c last month in the journal \u2062Advanced Optical Materials \u200cwas co-authored by Qi and Yan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Legal Proceedings and No Death Penalty<\/h2>\n<p>Qi\u200b made his first appearance in Orange County Court, where \u200da judge ordered that he be held without bond. He appeared \u200bshackled in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/obamas-wh-doctor-bidens-cognitive-decline-is-on-full-display-must-be-forced-out-immediately\/\" title=\"Obama\u2019s WH Doctor: Biden\u2019s \u2018Cognitive Decline Is On Full Display,\u2019 Must Be Forced Out Immediately\">orange jumpsuit<\/a> and required\u2062 a Chinese translator, according to NBC News.\u2063 Qi \u2062is an international student from China.<\/p>\n<p>A probable cause hearing \u2064has been\u200c scheduled for Sept. \u200d18.
